IN THE BEGINNING

22 Years ago, on September 3rd, 1995, a young couple embarked upon a life journey together.

Only a month after being married, on October 13th, Nate and I opened Borderlands Games. We were filled with a passion for games and a love of the community that surrounds them.

Over the years, we have watched you grow up with us, start families, and become a thriving gaming community. It has truly been a pleasure to be part of so many lives. Because of you, our dream became a reality. Many of you also know our daughters. You are their teachers, friends, family, and mentors. So many of you are now not simply patrons, but friends and family that we cherish and have deeply touched our lives.

THE SAGA CONTINUES

Several years ago, Nate became sick, and suffered a mental health breakdown caused by an untreated genetic condition. It took us a year to find Nate the right help and start his road to recovery. We were paying for all of this out of pocket, and almost lost Borderlands.

Since then, our daughters have been diagnosed with the same condition as Nate. Since it was diagnosed early they shouldn’t be impacted as severely. I have been doing my best to run Borderlands by myself, keep the community strong, and give my family the support they need.

Nate has not been able to leave the house much for the last 2 years and can’t drive, making it difficult for him to stay connected to you. He misses all of you, our community, and our gaming family.

After about 6 months of treatment, Nate was able to start helping from home, by handling some of the product ordering and setting up online sales. However, due to his condition, he made a few mistakes and accidentally violated one of our supplier’s online policies, resulting in them closing our account with them.

THE STORY DOESN’T HAVE TO END

We are now in a position where we have a large hole in Borderlands due to medical debt and the loss of a key supplier. Both Nate and the girls are still in treatment, and those expenses are building up. We also have our Borderlands Family to support, the faces behind the counter that you interact with every day, that are not simply employees, but are like family to us.

We have had ups and downs over the years, as most businesses do, but this time we could use some help. Borderlands has always been about you, the gaming community, our gaming family, your kids, and our kids.

Nate and I started this together, and I don’t want this to end while he’s still home recovering. We are not ready to be done. We have so many things that we still want to share with you. There are many more games to play and fun to be had.

We need your help.

Please donate what you can and share this to help spread the word.

Share with us what Borderlands means to you.

It has been a crazy busy couple of weeks! We managed to get in the new Magic set Dominaria, and International TableTop Day was a great success! Now to continue working on the rebuilding of the store, hosting Free Comic Book Day, May the 4th (Star Wars Day), and a new Pokemon set.
I have now had time to sit and write up precisely what the money will be used for:

1. We need to finish repairing the eBay account, by paying outstanding fees, getting replacement products to customers, and refunding any remaining customers. Repairing the account will allow us to sell again on eBay so we have a secondary source of money.

2. A major restock of product is needed, as we have been unable to fully replace items that have sold. We also need to bring in new product lines to replace the one that we lost.

3. There is back rent and utilities that need to be paid.

4. Nate and I need to cover our own living expenses, as we have only been taking very minimal pay, in order to make sure that our employees are taken care of.

5. We have a large amount of back taxes that we need to pay for the business. Right now, they are holding our personal tax return from last year until we get them paid.

6. Since we must unexpectedly move by the end of July, we will need to pay for various moving expenses.

7. We have outstanding medical debt that needs to be paid.
8. We also have continuing medical expenses that our insurance does not cover.

9. Finally, we have various unpaid business debts that need to be paid. Having them outstanding is prohibiting us from being able to access certain products & grow the business.

I hope that this paints a better picture of what we need and how the money will be spent.

I want to thank everyone for the support so far. It means so much to Nate and I to see how much you care. It really helps to keep our spirits up.
I found a picture of one of the last times Nate was at the store. Age of Sigmar had just been released, and he was teaching our oldest daughter, and our employee Brittany, how to play.
Our progress so far:
Although we were not able to pull any strings to get the prerelease going, we will have Dominaria for release day. We are also making plans to have TableTop day be a great event again this year, with plenty of give-aways, game demos, the board game heptathlon, and fun! The girls play volleyball at the Boys & Girls club in the morning, but you can bet I will be there the rest of the day to play as many games as I can!
There is a bit of more bad news however. Friday night when I got the mail, there was a notice from our landlord that we have been given 90 days to find a new place to live. No reason was given, and we really don’t know why. We have lived in this house for over 14 years, and our youngest was born right here at home. So now on top of everything, we must find a new place to live.
So please, keep sharing and get the word out.
Love,
Camille
