Lancaster Music Co-op is a non profit making music rehearsal rooms and recording studio in Lancaster, North West England.
Established in 1985 by a group of students wanting some where to rehearse, Lancaster Music Co-op has become the heartbeat of the city's music scene and a bastion for independent culture.
In 2018, Lancaster City Council issued us with an eviction order, but the whole community rallied behind and launched a campaign to save LMC. At a full council meeting in 2018, local councillors agreed to give us a long term lease on the building and carry out essential repairs.
For the last eight years we have been working hard to make sure we secure the future of LMC for good.
In 2023, Lancaster City Council finally gave us a peppercorn rent for 99 years on the understanding that we will raise the money and carry out the repairs and renovation of the building.
So far we have raised over £1 million to carry out the works on the £1.2million repair and renovation scheme. This is the culmination of years of hard work by our steering group and our amazing, supportive community who have been with us every step of the way. We have received funding from the government’s Community Ownership Fund, the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, Lancaster’s High Street Heritage Action Zone and the city council.
Our aim is to re-open to the community in 2026. We just now need a final £100,000 to finish the rehearsal rooms, studio and interior and kit out the rooms.
When the works are complete we will have a fit for purpose community rehearsal / recording facility with a secure 99-year lease that will be modern, affordable and, most importantly, open to all.
If you can help us in any way, then please donate what you can.
Huge thanks for your support and please come back for updates as we begin preparations to re-open
