Help Save Fitzroy

Dear neighbour and community member,
We need your urgent support.
As you may know, there is a proposed development at 93-97 Webb Street, Fitzroy – a 7-Storey apartment tower butted against the back of the Union Club Hotel, and 9 x four-storey townhouses down the little laneway.
This is not just a standard development.
It will not only have detrimental impact on many surrounding homes and businesses, it would actually create an irreversible precedent in the Fitzroy area in terms of height, mass, scale, and dismissal of heritage significance. This is therefore detrimental to the future of Town Planning in Fitzroy.
It was rightly rejected by Yarra City Council Councillors, for the reasons stated above.
But now, the greedy and careless developer is taking the Council and its community to VCAT to try and bully its way through (hearing 25th – 29th March 2019).
As a passionate community group, we have engaged professional experts in Town Planning, Heritage, Daylight Modelling, and Environmental and Sustainable Design to prepare reports for our case, and appear as witnesses on our behalf to fight their lawyers at VCAT.
Although this is excellent, it comes at a significant cost.
We are rallying our local community members to help raise the circa $30,000 required to pay for these expert reports and witnesses, because our voice must be heard.
Any contribution you can give - however small - will not only help to support this community effort, but will raise our fighting spirit throughout this long and tenuous battle.
We love this suburb. Let us do our best to keep it vibrant, human-scaled, diverse, and caring.
Thank you for your support and generosity.
