The Flint Skatepark is in dire need of repair. I consider this park to be my home base. I moved away a few years ago and the park at that time was frequented every day the weather permitted. I recently moved back to the area and noticed the park was hardly being used because of It's condition.
There are holes and damage to nearly every ramp and the pavement has significant cracks. There is trash everywhere and no trash cans. The park is no longer beginner friendly and has become a substantial safety issue for less advanced skateboarders.
This park, has in my opinion, saved lives. This is the only park in the area that can be reached by a nearby bus stop. There is not much opportunity for youth recreation in Flint. It is very important that kids have a safe place to go and skate. This park keeps many kids occupied with a challenging physical activity instead of being out on the streets.
The city of Flint has not maintained this park at all in It's over 10 year existence. They do not even cut the grass. Since this city has always had such an incompetent government I've decided to forego any affiliation with them. I'll be raising funds and doing the repairs with a few volunteers.
The goal is to raise enough money for plywood, 2x4's, quikcrete, pavement sealer, paint, and trash cans. I have a truck to transport materials and all of the tools that will be needed. It's not the prettiest park in the world but It's what we have. I would Greatly Appreciate any monetary help.
If anyone that lives in the area has a couple of empty 50 gallon plastic barrels they can donate, that would work great for trash cans. I can pick them up. We could also use any 2x4's or plywood you may have laying around if it is in good condition.
If you do not have a Paypal account and would like to make a donation, a cash can will be located on the counter of Brush Alley skate shop in Downtown Flint.
Thank you so much for your time and help with this project.
