As you know the last few years have provided me with some great challenges. All of you have been there for me, loved me unconditionally, supported me and also Cole. It has been a roll coaster of a time that has led me to look at a new path that could provide me with some peace that I am looking for, the chance to create a new story and to share something with Cole that could be an incredible experience for him. Seeing the world not from the western life that we lead but from the perspective of people who life in a very different way who need support, kindness and love. People who don't live life with their basic needs being provided. What are the basic needs that we think of, that we take for granted? Shelter, Food, Security, Family...
I am going to work in Sri Lanka. As you know I was there in September with my best besties. An amazing trip that really made me really connect with the country and the people. I was born in Sri Lanka and despite only living there for 5 years, when I returned this year I felt that I had arrived at my spiritual home. I had a very intense experience at a tiny temple that was in the middle of a lagoon. There was a tree there that was 900 years old and the place was just incredible. I cried for the entire time that I was on the temple land. It was not sorrow or reflecting on what has happened in my life. It was a release.
When I was studying Nursing I attended a lecture by an inspiring woman who was a nurse in Africa. I will remember her talk for the rest of my life. I remember leaving the room vowing one day to "give back" and go to do nurse aid work somewhere. As we all know, life can get in the way of our dreams, we allow that to happen. I did. The last few years have led me to reflect on nursing, and doing aid work again.
So I have decided to return to Sri Lanka in March 2019, I will work as a nurse aid in an orphanage. The children there have lost their parents, or have been abandoned. Cole and I will live with a local family and I will work for 3 months in the local orphanage in Galle.
The volunteer work is self funded and much of money I am looking at raising will go to the family who will allow Cole and I into their home, it will feed and house us. It will assist the family and of course the broader community too.
I would love and appreciate your support in this experience. I am raising the money and I am working very hard to make this dream come true. We are moving in with a beautiful couple at the end of the year to save money on rent and bills. Anything you can do to help financially would be appreciated so much. I am going to create a website and will write a weekly blog on the journey and the experience.
