Rose Thompson's Cancer Support Fund
Donation protected
In 1976 I lost my vibrant African Caribbean mother to breast cancer and 25 years later, I said good bye to my twin sister due to he same condition. In 2015 I became the 5th member of my immediate family to be diagnosed. This is not a sob story but more of a call to action to raise funds to support others I have met along my whole family’s cancer journey, especialy those who are less likely to have experienced cancer in their families or communities.
With this in mind I started an organisatin called BME Cancer Communities (BMECC) to inform and support seldom heard Black and Minority Ethnic communities and low income households with advanced cancers. Both are more likely to be diagnosed with advanced cancers and unfortunately from our experience, more likely to die prematurely as a result.
I am passionate about ending cancer inequalities, but first we want to create support networks for the most vulnerable. BMECC is self funding because I believe it is important for the people we serve to tell their own stories and develop their own suppoart networks.
BMECC has initiated support groups with very limited funding. “Sista’s Againgst Cancer” is a new group in need of financial support. Our further aim to develop and establish a nationwide network of similar groups delivering culturally approriate support and friendship.
Your financial contribution would be an invaluable investment in the services we provide to those affected by cancer.
