Restore Russ's Rides
Donation protected
Russell Deveau, a local mountain biking legend and trail building guru, had 4 of his bicycles stolen from his home recently. Those who know Russ know that biking is his world and that this is a significant loss for him. It took Russ years to acquire his beloved bikes and there’s no way he can replace them all at once. Sadly, it doesn’t look like his stolen bikes will find their way home.
Russ is one of the most respected members of the mountain biking community and has given a lot to us. People from across the mountain biking community, as well as in the cycling community in general, are shocked and saddened at this senseless crime. Many in the community have asked what they can do to help. Well, here's how... we are asking for your help to replace Russ’s rides! The goal is to replace 3 of the stolen 4 bikes.
Unfortunately, his home insurance will only cover a small portion of the cost to replace his bikes. However, members of our community are stepping up already! Hub Cycle in Truro has offered to help and will provide the replacement bikes at cost. Custom Clean Atlantic has offered to pitch in their support. This early support is generous and significant, and shows what our community can do to help someone in need.
The bikes have been ordered and we need to raise $7500 to get Russ riding again. Your help will be greatly appreciated, at whatever amount you can afford. Here is how we determined the target amount:
Amount of loss: $15,000
Cost to replace: $11,500 (thanks to Hub Cycle)
Insurance benefit: $4,000
Remaining cost: $7,500
Spread the word to folks in the community and to others you think might be interested in helping out. As Russ is a proud man who will find accepting this kind of help difficult, let's work together to get the word out while not broadcasting it all over social media in ways that he will see.
Thank you!
