Our names are Carolyn and Ryan, and we are not your typical high school sweethearts. I, Carolyn, was born with Cystic Fibrosis, a fatal genetic lung disease that ultimately leads to respiratory failure. However, I was granted the Gift of Life with a double-lung transplant on March 17, 2000 - St. Patrick's Day - the second luckiest day of my life (the first was the day I met Ryan). Before then, my life was filled with much uncertainty. It was a constant battle to stay alive and despite the many hospitalizations and emergency room visits, Ryan held my hand the whole way. On the day of my transplant, the odds of my survival was slim as the surgeon informed my family that my condition was critical. But a miracle happened when I opened my eyes and the first words that I wrote were "I am so happy." One year later, Ryan proposed. You would think that the rest is a happy ending, right?
Very wrong.
A few years later, after we were married, my kidneys began to fail due to the medications that I needed to take to prevent rejection of my lungs. It was a very dark time in our lives and once again, Ryan stepped up to the plate and gave me one of his kidneys. Fourteen years later, I am alive and well. We are now married over 15 years with two adorable fur-babies and are ready to face our next challenge - to start a family.
For those of you who know us, you are aware that I am unable to carry a child and our attempt to have our own biological child through surrogacy failed. After 5 years of careful consideration, we made the exciting decision to start a family through adoption.
We both have so much love to give and want nothing more than to raise a child in a loving, nurturing home. We both have big families with lots of amazing nieces and nephews who would also love and support him/her very much!
You would be surprised to know that the cost of adopting an infant is on average $40,000. We are unable to fund this entire amount on our own...hence the reason for this message. Please support our efforts to start a family with either a donation or by sharing this page.
