Pussy Division is a group of Philadelphia feminist activists that are speaking out. Through street art, guerrilla activism and online outreach, we want to promote awareness and generate discussions around issues related to oppression and inequality. Pussy Division is especially interested in issues related to rape, abuse, sexism and misogyny, racism, trans discrimination and other forms of oppression. Pussy Division is actively involved in the annual March to End Rape Culture, Take Back the Night, and other local and national grassroots organizations.
In light of recent events in our country and the subsequent increase of hatred toward marginalized groups, Pussy Division needs to act fast. We’re asking for financial help to cover the costs of our supplies for this year so that we can get to action now without our ideas for expression being stifled by a lack of funds. Some of these supplies include a large-format printer, event displays, paper, silkscreening inks, digital projectors, paint, and free-trade ethically produced merchandise supplies.
We refuse to accept the hatred stemming from this election as the new normal.
Ever wonder how we got our name? The word "pussy" has been historically used to equate femininity with weakness and generally degrade those who identify as women or are feminine. It’s a word that is used to oppress, is used to call people weak and to humiliate people. This understanding of femininity in our society is pervasive and incredibly harmful. We reclaim the word pussy for ourselves to name a group of people who are strong and taking action against oppression. Visit our facebook page to see what we're up to and learn more.
Below are photos of our previous projects. Help us get the funds we need to make greater, further reaching projects to spread our community projects focused on compassion and inclusion.
