ABOUT PROJECT MAGNIFY:
Many low-income and underprivileged youth suffer from financial crises, underfunded schooling, and an environment that is not conducive to both emotional and academic success. As the scientific community is a glimmer of hope for success that drives society forward, our mission is to close the disparity in Science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in financially needy youth, and to take socioeconomic status out of a quality education in science and engineering, so that any passionate student, regardless of financial status or social environment can be on the same playing field and have access to the same resources and opportunities for success. Our creative approach to this goal is to use 3D printing technology, which allows us to create affordable scientific equipment and resources such as microscopes, for a fraction of the cost that they would be, store-bought.
OUR GOAL:
We intend to visit several low-income elementary and middle schools in underprivileged neighborhoods such as South Central Los Angeles, and endow them with 3D printed supplies, resources, and education (through lectures and talks) to kindle students' interest in science. As it may be clear, we ourselves, as minors and as students, cannot singlehandedly muster the financial support needed to support underprivileged youth. As high school students, the school we attend also lacks adequate funds to support our cause, so we hope to rely on the help of the community around us to meet our financial goal of $1500, which will go towards purchasing parts for 3D printers, transportation, textbooks, and other educational resources to help these students. We hope you will kindly consider our proposal and help make a difference. Every penny counts! <3
