Through immigration raids, detention and deportations, the government is trying to tear our communities apart.
We must fight back together. Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants and Movement for Justice are organising Peckham Pride to resist the attacks by the Home Office on migrants and celebrate the strength of our communities.
Last year, along with Movement for Justice, we held the inaugural Peckham Pride, marching through Peckham, hearing from and celebrating those resisting raids, detention, and deportation in the community before holding a post-pride party at Bussey Building.
This year, we'll be marching again in a show of strength against the government's racist attacks. We'll be marching in solidarity with all who are persecuted and maligned by the mainstream media. We'll be marching to celebrate those fighting back against the raids, letting them know we shoulder to shoulder with them.
There will be a post-march party in the Copeland Gallery with performers, exhibitions, and food and drink. We are looking for more performers, caterers and speakers so please get in touch if you’d like to get involved!
In order to make this event possible, we need to raise some money. The £1,000 we hope to raise from this crowdfunder, and the money we'll be raising bucket shaking in Soho on the 9th February will all go to making Peckham Pride a success- from staging, lighting and chairs to funding free soft drinks and travel for those unable to pay and making sure we can offer performers at least a small fee- we want to make this Peckham pride as big, bold, beautiful and accessible as possible.
We refuse to be divided, we refuse to let prejudices turn us against each other. Our enemies are not each other, but borders and bigots. Join us for a celebration of queer and migrant culture in an act of defiance against the increasing repression from Theresa May and her government.
