Last September, more than 400 Kentucky AmeriCorps members helped to package 63,762 vitamin-fortified meals as part of the national AmeriCorps 20th anniversary celebration and the annual 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance (9/11 Day).
Kentucky AmeriCorps Program Directors want to provide the opportunity for their members to participate in this project again in 2015.
The mission of Kids Against Hunger, a humanitarian food-aid organization, is to significantly reduce the number of hungry children in the USA and to feed starving children throughout the world. The organization’s approach to achieving its goal – the eradication of world hunger – includes the packaging of a highly nutritious, vitamin-fortified soy-rice casserole by volunteers at numerous locations within the USA and Canada, and the distribution of those meals to starving children and their families in the United States and over 60 countries through partnerships with many organizations and groups like us! Learn more about Kids Against Hunger at www.kah-louisville.org.
Our Kentucky AmeriCorps family has a goal of raising $25,000 in order to prepare over 100,000 nutritious meals for children who live within the great Commonwealth of Kentucky and throughout the world! Please join us in this effort. Together we CAN get things done for Kentucky and throughout the world!
AmeriCorps is a national service program administered by the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service, part of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, and the federal Corporation for National and Community Service. AmeriCorps members serve faith-based and nonprofit organizations with critical educational, environmental and safety needs. Kentucky organizations receiving grants are dedicated to efforts such as tutoring and mentoring children, combatting homelessness, providing disaster preparedness training, teaching drug resistance education and empowering victims of domestic violence. Since the first class of AmeriCorps members began serving in 1994, more than 9,400 Kentucky residents have served more than 14 million hours and qualified for Segal AmeriCorps Education Awards totaling more than $32.5 million.
