New York State Pavilion Preservation
We began 2014 on a high note...WE SURPASSED GOAL! This fundraising effort has remained open for donations which helps us with future maintenance and touch up. Thank you for your continued support and please spread the word! http://nyspproject.org
We held our first Open Gate event on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the 1964-65 NY World/s Fair in April 2014 and two additional openings in May and October that year which were very successful.
2015 was also a great year for the pavilion. More events, more recognition, money for the towers and the amazing painting of the crown by the Structural Steel Painters Association and Union members. http://nyspproject.com/NYSPcrown.htm
More success and awareness throughout 2016.
Look for new progress reports as we continue our project and support other efforts through 2017 and beyond. Thank you!
We are a grass roots effort lending support to preserving an iconic structure remaining from the 1964-65 New York Worlds Fair in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens, New York. We (John P.; Mitch S.; Stephanie B.; Gary M.; Jim B.; Tom B.; Ed G.; et. al.) have spent the past few years gathering donations of materials and paint to restore some dignity to the structure in hoping it raises awareness towards the restoration and reuse. We have completed the outside paint and started the interior in the spring of 2013. Designed by famed architect Phillip Johnson it has fallen into disrepair over the years. It has more recently been seen in movies like Men in Black and Ironman 2, as well as TV on CSI:NY.
The 50th anniversary of the opening of the fair had arrived in April 2014 and the pavilin looked great. We have since hosted several successful open ngate events at the pavilion. However, there is more to do! The money raised will go towards red, white and yellow paint and associated materials. Typical cost per gallon is approximately $35-45 but we hope to seek discounts from generous paint distributors and other private donations. Thank you!
Check out http://nyspproject.org and the media coverage of our events. Please note- No funds from this gofundme was used for any purpose other than purchasing paint and directly related materials for the maintenance and improvement of the structure.

If we have funds remaining after purchase of paint and material, the funds will be used to help secure the NYSP as to protect the efforts of its volunteers. Locks, clean-up, fence and gate repairs may be some of the items needed upon completion of the paint project.
Please allow 2-4 weeks for delivery of your gift.
We recently spent a special weekend working on the pavilion; April 21 and 22. April 22 is the anniversary date of the opening of the Fair in 1964 (also Earth Day!) and April 21 is the anniversary for the second season opening day in 1965!
We completed a fresh coat of American Cheese Yellow on the mezzanine railing all around the outside of the pavilion. It is looking pretty good!
Please check out the progress report with photos from the productive weekend. http://nyspproject.com/progress_report_for_the_new_yorkT.htm
We continue to care for the pavilion and will be planning more days freshening up the exterior and interior. Our funds are running low so please spread the word about our project! We may go anther round of crowd funding this season.
Don;t forget to check out our site nyspproject.org for updates and access to all past progress reports. Quite a labor of love by many since we started in 2009.
Have a great Spring and we hope to see you in the park!
We hope everyone had a great holiday season. Winter has set in and there isn't much activity at the pavilion.
We will be back in the spring to do more work on the pavilion. We have our paint and tools in hand ready to go! We also hope to see restoration work begin on the towers this year!
Stay warm and we hope to see you soon.
It has been a little quiet at the pavilion this season. We were part of a Disney D23 NYC tour which included Flushing Meadows Corona Park! We took a large tour group around the park and showed them the original sites of the Disney attractions. It went well and they were very excited to be in the park and celebrate its Disney connection.
We will be participating in Open House New York weekend in October. Keep your eyes open for more information later in the summer.
We will be back in the park soon to do more maintenance on the building, we can't stop!
We also anticipate work starting soon on the towers. They are slated to get new stairways, new concrete decking, electrical upgrades and lighting! Unfortunately it does not include opening to the public but it is a step in the right direction.
Exciting things for the pavilion!
Thank you again for your support and enjoy your summer!
