NYC contingent of students, teachers, and concerned citizens for the March For Our Lives on March 24, since not everyone can make it to DC.  We will be having inspiring speakers, special events, and special guests. After speaking with allies who helped organize the Women's March in NY, we've determined the insurance costs, staging, and sound to cover 30,000+ participants will be approximately $100,000! (One block of "sound" costs $10,000-15,000 alone). Any funds not used will be distributed to the national organization for March For Our Lives as well as the gun violence prevention groups helping us staff this event. The organizers of marches in other cities (including us) are raising our own funds.

We are working in conjunction with Moms Demand Action NY, Guns Down Life Up, Gays Against Guns, Bronx Rises Against Gun Violence, Brady Campaign at NYU Law, Lawyers for Good Government, NY College Dems, NYS Young Dems, CLS Dems, leaders of the Women's March in NYC, Rock the Vote and students in the NY metro area to plan.

I will begin to withdraw funds to my personal account, and from there I will be allocating the funds in the following way IMMEDIATELY:

~$300-500 on credentials we need to create ourselves
~$800-1200 towards American Sign Language translators
~$3,500 on t-shirts and bright hats for our volunteers who will be working on crowd movement, voter registration, and handing out information day of
~$1,000 for bullhorns and radios

It is estimated that it will cost ~$11,500 per sound package which covers a city block. We will put money towards one of the sound packages.

That equals ~$18,000. The remaining funds will go towards filling out holes in our budget and putting more money towards additional sound. Our larger donors will help us pick up the extra remaining balance on an additional sound package.

I will update with EXACTLY where the money is spent and how, but we need to begin withdrawals today.

My name is Alex Clavering and I am the Executive Director of the March For Our Lives - NYC branch. I am representing the group of students that are working together in high schools and colleges across the NY area to make this march possible. We are affiliated with the national body that will be marching in DC, but we do NOT receive funding through them, so all that money you've heard about from famous people does NOT go to us.

We are lucky enough to have some generous donors who will be helping us pay for the lion's share of the rally we are planning. Our initial projection at $100,000 was based off of the cost estimates we were given by leaders of the Women's March in NYC.

Since we now have large donors, we will be lowering our plans to raise $100,000 to $25,000. As we said originally, sound is extremely expensive for a rally. Covering one city block in sound in NY costs over $10,000 alone. Because we expect thousands of people at this march, and because the NYPD projects they can fit around 4,000 people inside a single block, we will need several blocks of sound equipment.

This money will go to getting additional sound to what we have planned (just shy of $25,000 worth) and any remainder we have will go to shirts for our volunteers who will be working day of so they can be identified and help with the crowds and things like voter registration.

We will update this gofundme with an itemized list of how much we spend once we pay the vendors. We will use every single dollar on this march, or in support of the March For Our Lives central organization.

Thank you!
