Chef Michael Barney’s father created this GoFundMe page to help his son heal by cooking after a few hardships. He has been a chef for over 20 years for several upscale restaurants. Since 2019, two life hardships changed his son’s life (i.e., his mother’s passing from Alzheimer’s & Covid epidemic). During those difficult times, he volunteered and started cooking at homeless shelters.
This nonprofit is a self-start nonprofit catering service, NobodyGoesHungry.Org helps Albany County residents (homeless, independent living seniors, etc.) with preparing & catering homemade food dishes.
Michael Barney’s father has encouraged this perspective endeavor (i.e., catering homemade dishes) because his son loves cooking and is a self-healing cause that helps others obtain good quality food.
Unfortunately, the opening of his catering service was in June of 2020, during the onset of COVID. Due to the pandemic, it’s been difficult for NGH to find a kitchen space and buy quality food to serve its clients. Right now, He is the only employee doing everything from the cooking to the cleaning. He also uses community resources and his own money to cook homemade dishes for the homeless each week.
In addition to preparing food, our public charity educates and provides community resource information to clients. While serving food to clients, we can connect people with vital community support services to transition them out of homelessness, including health care, mental health services, job placement, sober living options, and other resources necessary to transition out of homelessness.
There are so many in need of a hot meal, especially with the cold winter months approaching. Many of the clients we serve are also without housing. NGH believes that the helping client meet their primary needs (food & physical hygiene), we open the door for clients to apply for other resources & benefits - housing transition.
Once NGH finds a local kitchen, he intends to hire interns and start a Chef Apprentice Program - open to all local high school students in grades 9-12. He will partner with the Albany County Food Bank, and the meals prepared by students will feed the homeless.
We envision a community where everyone has access to good quality, nutritious food, and we remain committed to creating a stronger, healthier Albany County. The donations will be used for food prep equipment and the purchase of a catering truck. If anyone has questions as to the transparency of this fundraiser, please feel free to reach out to the email provided.
