About Moon Pixel Collective

Moon Pixel began in January 2015 at Half Off Books in Whittier, CA and was founded by Raquel Reyes-Lopez. The development of Moon Pixel started with a series of regular open-mics hosted by Raquel. She provided a platform for local talent to shine and network with their community. Her intention was to encourage people to come together, and inspire one another through healthy mediums, such as comedy, poetry, story-telling, and music. Moon Pixel's Open-Mic segment ended January 2017 and the concept of an open-mic is on temporary hiatus due to relocation. Moon Pixel Collective is branching out to become a platform that holds strength through a strong social media presence. This year we want to provide meaningful workshops where people can thrive in their skill, or inspire someone else to find growth in a new hobby, but our main aim is to help local community develop respect for one another. We believe we become stronger by coming together to find, harness, and share joy.

Who will this fundraiser will benefit?
I love that this fundraiser will benefit military spouses. I live in Camp Pendleton. These workshops are aimed for my community housing military wives. They will be FREE! I do not want to charge for the time I will spend leading these workshops. I will accept donations.

When would I like these funds to be reached?

Honestly, it would be great to have the goal reached by the middle of March. I want to get the workshop starting around the middle of March, so I can begin to get my participants comfortable with sharing, writing, and creating beore April, which is National Poetry Month.

What will the funds will be used for?

We believe in transparency and honesty. Raquel has listed below how the funds will be used. We will upload photos of our workshop participants using the materials we are requesting for you to help us with. We will provide receipts that document the expenses.

-          $99.99 One year of Premium WordPress subscription.

This would boost kick Moon Pixel Collective’s website and allow us to have a more interactive sphere of social connection for easier accessibility, and comfort to our visitors, and workshop participants, but mainly more storage capacity to publish posts frequently. We will be covered for a year, yay!

-          $96.00 One year Animoto subscription.

Have you heard of Animoto? It is an amazing video editing program that is streamed online that allows you to compile interactive lectures for you to share, upload, and have your students to learn from with a flare of fun. This is a resourceful tool for our workshop series. It allows for material to be watched and reviewed at the end of a class session!

-          $60.00 Multipack Color and Black Ink Combo for Canon Pixma Printer.

Moon Pixel Collective aims to provide free resources for our workshop participants. Please note, each workshop series will be free, because we have a strong foundation on the concept of creating community. Our workshops will aim to hold a total of 10-15 people. We will be printing out assignments, handouts, homework, and any other necessities for those who do not have access to a printer at home.

-          $20.00 Paper for Canon Printer.

This will cover the cost of paper we will be using for our first workshop group. Woohoo!

-          $35.00 Journals for participants.

This will allow us to purchase college ruled composition journals for our first workshop group. These workshops are free but we never want to assume that our participants have the extra funds to buy materials. If some or our entire workshop cannot afford to buy a journal we want to have their back. This cost will cover our first workshop group. We will encourage our first group to pay it forward. By the end of the workshop they will donate a journal for the next workshop group to use.

-          $15.00 Writing supplies for our first round of workshops.

Because we’re human. Sometimes people will be prone to forgetting pens or having no ink left. It happens! You’ve been there (wink). At the end of the workshop we will encourage our first group to donate writing supplies for the next group. Yay, for generosity!

-          $10.00 Giveaway ticket pack.

This one is IMPORTANT. Mainly because the concept behind this will thrive with the number of donations we get from collective talented people. Each month we want to do giveaway prizes for our Housing Community. We want to encourage them to fall in love with healthy mediums. Whether that be a donated book of poetry from an author or press, a music CD from a singer song writer, or musician. You get the idea! We want people to be inspired by everyday people who have harnessed their creativity. Giveaway tickets will be provided for FREE. But limited to one giveaway ticket per participant each month. A monthly prize will come in first prize, second prize, and third prize.

-          $40.00 Oh, oh! Sometimes technology has hiccups.

This will be a freeze saving in case our community printer has an issue we can buy one right away.

-          $60.00 There will be tough days and board games will do.

I want to express something lightly I live on Camp Pendleton. This means most of my workshop participants will be military spouses or active duty enlisted for now. Sometimes there will be obstacles that will get in the way, not being able to get a babysitter, a household errand came up, such and such. That’s totally fine! We want to have board games on hand for any of our workshop participants that have children. This is for that occasion they can’t get a baby sitter. They can bring their lil’ ones over.

-          $50.00 Food the universal language.

This will allow me to feed snacks to my participants. In the future, I want Moon Pixel Collective to thrive off the importance of potlucks. However, because of circumstances not all my participants can afford to feed others outside their household, and I totally get it. I do want to provide little snacks while we do ice breakers to get to know each other. Your help would be so appreciated!

-          $25.00 Gift Certificate

For our top first group workshop participant, this encourages participation amongst our group, and gives us a positive healthy level of competition to grow in a skill.

Thank you:

The support that will come from the GoFundMe will mean the world to me. For the last two years I have been such an active member of my Whittier and Long Beach community. Due to moving to Oceanside, CA I am relocated and craving to start again a meaningful journey that helps those around me. I am extremely grateful for whatever amount or contribution you decide to give.

Sincerely,
Raquel Campos
