Sustainable

Way of living

8 years ago three organizations located in the South Valley of Albuquerque New Mexico, started a project of organic local agriculture to provide salad mix to Albuquerque public schools.
In the course of those years and already with 9 farm members another entity was born "La Cosecha" which provides a service called Community Supported Agriculture, CSA.
To be able to carry out this project, we work with community members who allow us to use their land. In this way, they help us to create jobs and produce healthy food and we help them to preserve their water rights and claim their agricultural taxes.
We have also developed other models where we teach agriculture to members of the community and to use the natural resources of the environment in which we live.
From 100% of the food that New Mexico consumes, (speaking of vegetables) New Mexico only produces 7% of it, for this reason the need to train more farmers and expand the market are essential.
Albuquerque does not have a farmers market year round, therefore, the idea of opening small stores and provide this service it is another option toward the expansion of the market and the strengthening of the state and local economy.
We know that the future of local economy are small businesses.
To have a community to supply their own needs is the goal of sustainability.
Considering all of this, I opened a store called Moktezu-Mart, in order to cover all these needs.
The store is an extension of the fields where we farm.
It has a kitchen where we will prepare food using our vegetables.
Also, we will support small entrepreneurs who use the commercial kitchens of New Mexico, the idea is to promote, consume and support everything that is planted and produced in the state, this includes art and culture.
The mission of Moktezu-mart is:
The local distribution of organic produces to sustain the community
The vision:
Provide good quality food
Fortify the economy
Be a source of jobs
Support the arts
Take care of the environment, the earth and the health of the community
And all this thanks to a culture that belongs to all of us
AGRICULTURE
The field produces what the store distributes and the store generates the money to pay the farmers who plant the fields.
Since the store is located one block away from the University, we are going to prepare bags of seasonal vegetables at affordable prices for students.
My name is Fidel González and I’m the one in charge of this project.
The amount of money that I have invested to carry it out, has not been enough.
The reason of this video is to raise $15,000 dollars in the next month and a half to buy the rest of the equipment that we need in the store, tables, chairs, oven, dehydrators, juicers and some other accessories to be able to finish the project.
At the end of the term on Wednesday February 14 Valentines day, we will celebrate with a party at the store from 6 to 9 pm. Regardless of the amount of money you contribute, we will give you10% discount every time you shop in the store.
Thank you for taken the time to watch this video, and we appreciate your help and your attention!
