Memory Makers of Oxford, MS

Tax deductible

An estimated 5.7 million Americans of all ages are living with Alzheimer's dementia in 2018. This number includes an estimated 5.5 million people age 65 and older and approximately 200,000 individuals under age 65 who have early-onset Alzheimer's.

To put that into perspective, every 65 seconds, someone in the U.S. develops the disease.

On the other side of these statistics, 16.1 million Americans provide unpaid care for their loved ones with Alzheimer's or other dementias.  That translates to an estimated 18.4 billion hours of care valued over $323 BILLION!

Oxford Memory Makers plays a unique and important role in the LOU community by supporting these caregivers as well as the individuals with Alzheimer's or other memory-related diseases.  Open four days each week, Monday through Thursday, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, Memory Makers offers a day program which provides stimulating activities for the impaired individuals and an opportunity for rest and education to caregivers.  Participants pay $20/day to attend.

Memory Makers isn't set up like a traditional "adult day care"--but instead, resembles more of a "party" atmosphere.  Participants are welcomed with a healthy breakfast and coffee, socialize with other participants and a host of wonderful volunteers who offer their time to the Memory Makers organization, engage in stimulating activities such as crossword puzzles, yoga, music and dancing, and have a hearty lunch of a sandwich, soup, chips and a treat.

Operating a high quality program that provides individualized attention is expensive. Despite careful planning and the generosity of volunteers, Memory Makers' expenses outweigh its income. Raising the daily fee is not a viable option, as it would make the program inaccessible to some participants.  It takes a donation of just $5,000 to keep Memory Makers’ doors open for an entire month.

Will you help us support Memory Makers and allow them to continue to offer this wonderful service to our friends and neighbors? Every dollar that we raise is guaranteed to help make someone's day just a little less stressful, their smiles brighter, and maybe even someone's memory last just a little bit longer.
