Support for Justine
This is a gofundme created for Justine McKail. She is a full-time student at Salt Lake Community College studying to become a Surgical Oncologist. Her dream is to finish studying at the University of Utah.
Justine works at the Layton, Utah Coldstone Creamery as a shift lead for customer service.
Recently while at work she provided excellent service to a customer who decided to write a Yelp Review. In that review she praised the store, product, and service. She then continued the review by attacking Justine's weight.
These were the comments that were made, "One of the female employees Jessie? Jennifer? J something, is disgustingly obese, and each time we come in, although she does her job, and is very polite, instantly makes my appetite disappear. I understand the need to hire bias free, but when someone’s [sic] looks interfere with my experience at an establishment [sic] I can’t help but complain. As a mother, I don’t like my children thinking they will look that way by eating too much ice cream. "
These remarks were extremely insensitive and inexcusably disgusting. They perpetuate the thought that who you are on the inside doesn't matter because of what you look like on the outside. Looks are NOT more important than who you are.
While talking with Justine's manager and Mother they said this about her, "She is a bright woman who loves people and does a lot for others and hopes to start her own non-profit organization in the future. Justine makes an impact on everyone she meets. She is positive and sees the good in others. She has a passion for helping others and wants to use that passion in all she does in life."
Justine is from a large blended family of 10. She has been diagnosed with PCOS and struggles with her weight but does not let that get in the way of her love for life and everything in it."
This gofundme is a small show of support to Justine and an encouragement to continue her education and reach her goal of becoming a Surgical Oncologist and starting her own non-profit. It is also to show that one person's inexcusable comments do not define who she is, who she will become, or how others feel about her.
