Maintenance for Flower's Earthship
Donation protected
Last year, we built Flower, our First Nations friend on the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory, a Simple Survival Earthship. She has named it her Bear Den, and loves being in it. She feels connected to the earthen walls, and takes pride in growing tomatoes and strawberries in her planters.
Over the winter, the Bear Den had a couple of complications, and we would like to help repair the problems and help Flower make it her home.
1. One of the cooling tubes is leaking water. We need to dig out and extend the retaining wall to stop water being able to get in, and repair some plaster work.
2. The jerry cans used for the solar shower and bathroom hand washing station reacted poorly to the water and rusted out faster than anticipated. We need to replace them with solar bags.
3. The bury of the building settled, which is normal, but it left some of the vapour barrier exposed. We need to replace a portion of it and re-bury the building.
4. Flower experiences severe arthitis and is sensative to the cold, so while the earthship was certainly a liveable temperature, she has asked for a woodburning stove.
Connie and Craig, of the Port Burwell Earthship, have graciously donated a stove, however we need to pay to have it installed before the winter.
We are looking for your support to complete the above tasks through monetary donations.
We also are welcoming volunteer diggers, and plasterers on Saturday July 29th. Email [email redacted] for more details.
Thank you all for your support, and energy and making this building possible. We love you.
Flower, Anna, and Marianne.
