LIFE UPDATE!!! I will try to keep this post to a minimum, but I have some exciting news to share with all of you!

For those of you who don't know, I am graduating this December (only a mere 6 weeks away!) and come January I AM MOVING TO UGANDA FOR SIX MONTHS!! Words cannot express just how excited I am for this opportunity, something I have dreamed of for years and now it is finally happening.

Anyone who knows me well, knows how strongly I have desired to return to Africa for an extended amount of time. My mission trip to Senegal (West Africa) in May 2015 was truly life changing and I have longed to return ever since. Since returning from Senegal I have continuously enrolled in African Studies courses here at UT to learn more about the continent and I am set to complete an African Studies Certificate upon graduation. I have planned to graduate an entire semester early for the sole purpose of returning to Africa and, most importantly, I have prayed for this dream of mine for quite some time.

The power of prayer is incredible because I am so excited to announce that by the grace of God, I have the opportunity to move to Gulu, Uganda for six months and work alongside women through Krochet Kids International. A majority of my time in Uganda will be spent doing photojournalism work for the organization, a creative outlet I have been passionate about for quite some time. The other half of my time will be spent working alongside these women as a production assistant. This opportunity combines my passions for photography, giving back, and love for the continent of Africa, a true dream come true.

Unfortunately, this internship is unpaid and thus I will have to raise support in order for this dream to become a reality. With international flights and cost of living in Gulu I am expected to raise $7,000 to cover all of the expenses for my six months in Uganda. This amount may seem high, but I am trusting in the Lord to provide for me. I am humbled at the thought that this incredible experience could possibly be funded by the generosity of loved ones and am eager to show you all the difference and positive impact your donations will make in Uganda. Regardless of the amount, I cannot express the genuine appreciation I have for any and all contributions as I know none of this would be possible without you.

Krochet Kids focuses on women empowerment and poverty alleviation. Krochet Kids has created jobs for women in Gulu through crocheting hats and other products that they sell here in the United States. Not only has Krochet Kids provided these women with jobs and a steady income, but they have also implemented a mentorship program for these women with tips on how to increase savings and live a more sustainable lifestyle. KKU dedicates at least three years to each woman empowering them to rise up against poverty.

The results from this program include:

-A Steady Income
-Savings Increases
-Healthier Families
-Physical Abuse Decreases
-Gender Equality Increases
-More Children in School

These results are consistent with Krochet Kids ideology that: "The true measure of social impact is not how well you can care for someone in your presence, but how well they thrive in your absence." Krochet Kids is providing these women with the resources necessary to become self-reliant and independent from outside aid, including the aid from Krochet Kids themselves.

The Krochet Kids program is changing lives and I am so excited to have the opportunity to play a part in this incredible organization. God has answered one of my biggest prayers through giving me this opportunity and I cannot wait to serve in Uganda along these wonderful women.
