Helping Orphans in Kenya

Donation protected
Can you envision a land in which so many infants are abandoned, burned, found in slums, buried in gardens, hidden in pits and dumsters, and tested HIV positive?

In just a few short weeks I will intern in Kenya at the New Life Home Trust (NLHT) orphanages, where over 1,600 HIV+ infants are provided with extreme medical attention and care. Our goal is to supply compassionate remedy for the children’s spiritual, sociological, physical, educational, medical, economical, and emotional development as they grow to be happy youth and are adopted by Kenyan families.

With the assistance of loving caregivers and medical attention, 70% of the infants are adopted upon appropriate discharge, and so far 90% of the HIV-positive children have become HIV-negative by the time of their adoption. The legal work and documentation necessary to allow the healthy treatment and adoption process to flourish in Kenya will be the focus of my internship, as well as the one-on-one interaction with the children. From May 16-June 1, I will spend time at all four of the NLHT orphanages located in Nakuru, Kisumu, and Nairobi, interacting and caring for the orphans, and also observing their development. My project will consist of creating/updating the children’s adoption files, psychosocial reports, and photographs. All of my tasks are critical to the orphan’s lives, as they expedite the children’s chances of becoming healthy and gaining weight, and also helping to find them a safe and loving family for the first time. I believe that investing in a child’s future is the most important investment to be made, and orphans too should have the opportunity to live life happily and achieve their dreams.

I have always had a desire to give back and to help children with unique and special needs. Regardless of socio-economic status, race/ethnicity, health status, religion, sexuality, and the sort I believe that with an education, determination, fair treatment, and a support system all children can succeed. With my heavy backgroung in education, I am ecstatic to visit schools and see a culture with such a different culture.

Being completely submerged in a new world to learn about orphans, orphanage operations, and a non-profit organization will all help me develop my leadership, communication, global, and teaching skills. I hope to learn how to be a wiser leader for today’s impoverished and unhealthy children, and also develop strategies to understand their developmental needs

I am excited for my future and all that lies ahead for me and our children globally. I am asking for your financial support, and, most importantly, I need your continued positive thoughts and support. We, the vulnerable children and I, need your support. YOU are the fuel that will allow me to be successful in this mission and in accomplishing my dreams to serve others.
