As of June 14, we're taking this year's campaign to the streets--specifically, your street!

As we continue to work on improving signage and awareness for the Athol and Orange Farmers Markets and Quabbin Harvest Coop, we're inviting supporters and fans of the local food economy to join in by buying an individual yard sign (or more than one) to display at your home or business. We'd love to see these signs popping up all around Athol and Orange over the next few weeks!

To order, you just need to do two things:

1) Make a donation here to help cover the cost of the sign (suggested donation $15-20 per sign)

2) Post a comment below to tell us which sign(s) you'd like and how to contact you. You can also email cathy[at]cathystanton.net if you'd prefer.

Signs will be available for pickup at Quabbin Harvest (12 North Main St, Orange) starting on June 24. If you can't get to the coop, we'll figure out another way to get your sign(s) to you.

The beautiful designs are by Amy Borezo. The signs are being printed locally by Lyman Signs.

We're building on the success of last year's fundraiser, which helped produce the 2016 "Food from the North Quabbin" brochure and other promotional materials. This year we're hoping to raise enough money to cover three things:

   * the 2017 edition of the "Food from the North Quabbin" brochure
   * printing and framing of a new set of farmer portraits from Oliver Scott Photography , to be displayed in the Athol Public Library's gallery during May 2017 and in other area venues in the following months
   * and some new yard signs to draw attention to the Athol and Orange Farmers Markets and Quabbin Harvest Coop

Our overall PR campaign this year is called "Lots More Local." We want to let more people know how much local food we actually produce in our area, and how it strengthens our local economy when people support locally-owned food businesses.

We have some seed money from the New England Grassroots Environment Fund and the North Quabbin Garlic and Arts Festival Community Grantmaking program, which we're very grateful for!

If you're wondering how much to give, here are some suggestions:

   * $15 will buy one new yard sign
   * $40 will pay for the printing and framing of one beautiful farmer portrait by Oliver Scott
   * $65 will pay for a bundle of 50 food brochures to be distributed at area stores, pubs, libraries, and farms

And if you're wondering who we are, we are GOALFM - "Grow Orange and Athol Local Food Markets," a working group of farmers and friends that emerged from conversations at the Greater Quabbin Food Alliance about how to support and revitalize our local farmers markets.

Your support will help us spread the word about local food and celebrate our farmers and small food businesses!

We're opening our sign campaign to our friends and neighbors starting on June 24! In addition to the signs we'll be buying with your generous donations so far, we're inviting you to purchase one (or more) for yourself to display on your own lawn or in front of your business.

Suggested donation is $15-20 per sign. Check out the beautiful designs and either post a comment here or email cathy[at]cathystanton.net to let us know which one(s) you'd like to buy. You'll be able to pick them up at Quabbin Harvest in Orange starting on June 24 (we can make alternative arrangements if you're not able to get to the store).

Things have been slow on the campaign over the past month, but not in the local food and farming world, where growers and sellers are getting geared up for the new season!

We'd really like to raise the rest of our funds in June so that we can get the 2017 brochure circulating and the farmers market signs out.

$15 will buy one new lawn sign for the farmers markets. Check out Amy Borezo's great design for the "Lots More Local" signage!

$65 will buy us a stack of 100 new brochures.

But of course you can give any amount. It will all be put to very good use and will help us spread the word and broaden the customer base for the wonderful food grown by our local producers. Thanks, in advance, for joining in!

We've made a good start on this year's goal, but there's a way to go yet. Hoping this might inspire some new donations: we're getting ready to print and frame the new farmer portraits by Oliver Scott for the gallery show at the Athol Public Library in May.

We're not sure if this great image of Karen Davis and her soon-to-be-daughter-in-law Laura (then Wolfgang, now Davis) from last summer's shoot at Sweetwater Farm in Petersham will make the final cut, but we thought we'd share it here for a little early spring joy.

There are a LOT of beautiful images to choose from - help us with the costs of mounting the show by contributing $40 to cover one framed image. Or $15 to buy one new yard sign to promote the markets. Or another amount that fits your resources!
