Logan's Journey #LoganStrong

For my best friend Gary, who has too much pride to admit he may need help. These are his words:

"Hi, my name is Gary and I would love to tell you the story of our strong son Logan.

When my wife was 20 weeks pregnant we got the devastating news that there was a problem with Logan. We were told that he has CDH(Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia). Basically he has a hole in his diaphragm that allowed some or all of his stomach organs to move into his chest cavity and squish his heart and lungs. This also causes them to be underdeveloped. Because of the severity and survival chances of this prognosis, we did not have a baby shower.

After research and discussing it with our doctor we decided that the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is one of the top hospitals to handle this condition. After visiting CHOP we knew they were the right place. We found out that there are different severities of CDH and they would not know how severe our son’s was until they did the surgery to repair him. They said that it would take anywhere from 3 months to about a year for him to be well enough to come home.

My wife and I packed up and moved down to Philadelphia temporarily to have Logan and go on this Journey with him. For the first 3 months of Logan’s Journey it was very tough. Three times we were told that his chances of survival were minimal before procedures. He has had 5 major procedures. They now have no other procedures planned. Logan spent over 30 days on ECMO – heart-lung bypass. He was on so much sedation that he barely moved. I will say that sitting bedside next to your baby barely moving with so many tubes sticking out of him is the toughest thing to do. But we stayed strong and Logan stayed strong and pulled through those bleak times.

Logan is doing much better. He is 7 months old. He just had a trach put in and now he laughs and smiles. His laughs and smiles are things of beauty that all the nurses come to see. They just told us that within a month they will be transferring Logan to a facility closer to home. A month or 2 after that he should finally be home.

His Journey will not end going home. But I have seen how strong Logan is and I know nothing will stand in his way!

Thank you for listening to my story.

Gary"

You can follow logan's journey on Gary's Facebook profile wall https://www.facebook.com/gwlee , but I will archive his updates here on the GoFundMe platform as well, in hopes to inspire you all to donate. All money will go to helping Logan thrive, and live a comfortable normal life at home once he is out of the hospital.

Please consider donating, praying, or sending good vibes Logan's way . Thanks in advance.
