Little steven stomping out cancer

Donation protected

The Journey for my little cousin Steven Hernandez Jr, started back in October with what he thought was a simple pain in the leg, after running the mile in PE.  The pain never went away so his mother made a doctor’s appointment and his x-rays came back abnormal.  That abnormal x-ray started my little cousin and his family on a roller-coaster of events.  He was sent up to Valley Children’s Hospital where more test were ran then was sent to UCSF for a biopsy to confirm what lil Steven had.  Lil Steven’s world was soon flipped upside down with the news that he had Osteosarcoma a bone cancer.
From that point the roller-coaster ride sped up.  He had a port put in for the chemo treatments he was going to be receiving along with more testing.  The chemo is harsh on his 12 year old body.  He gets nauseated, has a loss of appetite, he is dehydrated and his immune system is weak.   His white and red blood cells are extremely low.  He is also depressed and worried his friends will forget about him.
To date he has had 9 chemo treatments and each treatment takes him several days to recover before he can go home.  He also fights fevers over 100 to 103 as well as mouth sores so it hurts him to eat.  He is in and out of the hospital due to his immune system.   He had to receive a blood transfusion on top of the multitude of medication he takes to help him deal with the pain and other side effects from chemo.  Amongst all that he is going thru, they received the bad news from the San Francisco doctors on January 26th that they will not be able to save his leg.  They are going to have to amputate it.  With all that he has endured he is worried he will not be able to play basketball with his friends.
His surgery is set for February 22nd in San Francisco.  He will be in San Francisco for at least 5 days after the amputation.  They will start his therapy and he will continue with the remaining 9 sessions of chemo.   His mother has not been able to work because she is by his side in case he has to be rushed to the hospital and his father was laid off from work right before the holidays.  All the traveling to and from the hospital and the extended stays has put a financial strain on the family.
If you would like to help the family it would be greatly appreciated but most importantly please lift Lil Steven and his family up in prayer.
