Lily and her Angry Wolf Need You!

Spende geschützt
$5 for 1 child. It can be as simple as that.

Let me introduce you to Lily. Lily is a 7-year-old girl who loves animals, is an actress, and has the biggest heart you’ve ever experienced. Just check out this video of her singing “Tomorrow” from ANNIE.

So much heart! AH-mazing!

She also has Anxiety and Disruptive Mood Dysregulation Disorder.

Lily was adopted by Mindy and Ryan in 2009. She was born addicted to cocaine and had no prenatal care. As a preemie, she was only a 2 on the Apgar scale, or the simple wellness assessment at birth (10 is the highest score). Twelve days later and at only 5lbs, Mindy and Ryan took their precious baby girl home and began the rest of Lily’s life.

What does all of this mean for Lily?

Think about your kid’s worst temper tantrum. Multiply it by a gazillion. She gets very angry and things can become very unsafe for her and others: throwing things, banging her head on the wall, thrashing, and throwing herself at people. It can be very scary for everyone, including Lily. They never know when she’ll be back in the hospital.

Her nervous system is “fried” and her parents are trying to help her rewire things.

Lily’s Treatment Plan

A year ago, Lily went on medication, and it has helped a ton. She now attends a special therapeutic school and the whole family is involved with the program to help Lily succeed.

She has made HUGE progress. But it has come at a cost. A big financial cost.

Mindy and Ryan needed to take time away from their freelance work so that they could care for their daughter. For example, it can take more than an hour to coax Lily to school. Ryan was called to pick her up early from school so often that he lost his job as an Interior Designer; he could not stay on top of the work because his daughter needed him. Though she doesn’t teach every day, Mindy has lost as much as $500 in a single day when she couldn’t make it to work and has lost voice lesson clients because she’s had to cancel. Ryan still does some freelance work, and now, they both drive for Uber to make ends meet.

It’s a parent’s worst nightmare—choosing between their sick child and work to pay the bills.

Their income was cut in half last year, and they’re struggling with their most basic needs because Lily needs them. Someone always has to be with her, and a babysitter that specializes in Lily’s needs are very expensive. They’ve applied to a therapeutic after school program, but there is a three-month wait list.

Lily and her Angry Wolf

Childhood anxiety and mood disorders are never really talked about like physical illnesses. Lily isn’t shy talking about it, and she often describes it as her angry wolf.  She knows that this is part of her and that she just needs a little help. And, now, so do her parents.

“I worry about her every day. I worry about her future and I wonder if she's going to have a meltdown at school and if today is the day she goes back to the hospital. Our house is a disaster because we are mentally and physically exhausted. When we do find the time to get things on track, inevitably Lily has another breakdown, and she throws, breaks, and intentionally spills things. Her therapist says she needs a clean, stable environment which is nearly impossible because we are either at work or too exhausted. And... the cycle of depression [for us] begins.” –Mindy

How can I help?

$5 for 1 child. It’s as simple as that.

$10 is great!

$20 is amazing!

Be as generous as your heart (and wallet) will allow. Got any big spenders out there? I know a little girl whose talents would make a great investment.

It gives The Smith Family hope that they’ll survive this because Lily is a special little girl with a very bright future. Your help will allow them to recover from income loss, focus on Lily’s progress and new programs, and find new jobs that’ll work with the whole family’s needs.

We’ve all been there before. We understand that snowball effect: stress, leading to more meltdowns, leading to more stress, and leading to less work. We all want Lily to thrive, and we all want Mindy and Ryan to succeed.

Our first goal is to cover their next month’s rent: $1,500. Chip in today!

Our campaign goal is $9,000, and that’ll help give Mindy and Ryan a little breathing room while Ryan continues to look for a steady job. That would give them an extra $1,500/month over the next six months, or six months rent.

I’m poor, too, but I want to help!

Mindy commutes from Connecticut to Brooklyn—a two-hour train ride one way!—to work every day and Lily’s health is her number one priority. Sometimes…a lot of times…the laundry just doesn’t get done. We’ve all been there, am I right? Sometimes there isn’t the time or money to do a load at the laundry mat. That’s why we’re launching THE LAUNDRY TRAIN! It’s a like a meal train where you sign up on a calendar to deliver a dinner to a family who needs a little more support. Mindy needs help with laundry. Volunteer to do one basket of laundry for a very exhausted mama.

It’ll also help keep their home more in order which’ll help Lily have more structure in her day. It’s a win-win!

Remember, money isn’t the only way to change one person’s life.

Thank you so much for supporting Lily who is on her road to success in life. When she is a big Broadway star who is also a veterinarian with her trusty side-kicks, Lucy the Wonder Pup and Smitten the Kitten, you can say, “I knew her when and I helped her get there.”
