What we are seeking:

Voluntary donations for a clean and healthy Lake Jeane

History:

As many of your know the Twin Lakes Golf and Country Club owns Lake Jeane.  For over 40 years there has been an on-going dispute between the Lake Jeane Homeowners and TLG&CC regarding maintaining the lake and keeping down the algae.  Over the years the algae has grown worse and the TLG&CC has not treated the lake for the past several years.  This has made for a terrible toxic mess.  One that is a danger to the residents, children, pets, and wildlife.  Every summer the smell is terrible and we have had to keep out of the water and make sure our animals do not go near it.  We have seen the beautiful wildlife that used to be so abundant move away from Lake Jeane.  We have watched each summer with sadness that our beautiful lake cannot be enjoyed to its full extent each summer.

What many of you may also know is that after many years of dealing with this a lawsuit was filed against the TLG&CC two years ago by eight households.

These eight households spent over $221,000 in attorney fees with some additional homeowners contributing $8,279 for a total of $229,279.00.  After two years we came to an agreement based on the following:

The judge determined that there is nothing in the CC&R’s that proves that the Club has an obligation to treat the lake.  Just owning something doesn’t obligate you to treat it. Also the CC&R’s state that we the homeowners bordering Lake Jeane have an easement over the lake for use and enjoyment. This easement for use and enjoyment gives us the right, but not the obligation, to treat the lake.

Where we are today:

´ The Club will not treat the lake – it is up to us to ensure a clean lake

´ The plaintiffs have contracted with a reputable applicator Aquatechnex.  Please visit their website at: http://aquatechnex.com/about/ They are an approved applicator by the Department of Ecology.

´ Aquatechnex  has filed for a permit on our behalf to treat Lake Jeane.

´ The permit is being processed by the Department of Ecology and will be approved and provided to us by April 6th

´ We have received an estimate from the applicator for treatment.

Treatment Overview and Estimate:

Aquatechnex has recommended an Alum treatment.  This is approved by the Department of Ecology and been used in several Washington State Lakes with success (including Green Lake).  We will need to do an algaecide/herbicide treatment prior to the Alum treatment as well as at least one more during the summer.  In the next week or two they will be doing a Biobase mapping of the lake which is similar to a heat map to get a better idea of the phosphorus levels as well as plant growth to ensure treatment levels.

Total Cost Estimate for Spring/Summer 2018 is $20,000.

Next Steps:

The 8 Lake Jeane Plaintiff families have spent over $200,000 on a lawsuit to win the right to treat Lake Jeane. We do not have the financial resources to now pay for a clean lake on our own.  We are looking for voluntary donations to get a clean lake this summer – and we don’t have much time!  Treatment must start by end of April – mid May.   While there are zero guarantees that this treatment will be 100% successful we can guarantee you that with zero treatment it will be 100% toxic!    PLEASE HELP US GET A CLEAN LAKE BY DONATING NOW for the sake of our health, our wildlife and our community.

Thank you!
