Kinning Park Complex Break In

Donation protected
***UPDATE***

Thanks you so much to everyone that donated to our campaign. As sad as we were to find all the damage, all the love and support that has come in has left us completely overwhelmed. The money that we have raised means that we will be able to upgrade all of the security in the Kinning Park Complex and make it a more secure building that ever before.

A new alarm,  stronger doors, windows that are more protected and maybe even some cameras are all planned. We have had help from friends and volunteers to temporarily secure all rooms that were broken into and we have a number of tradespeople currently coming in to give us exact quotes on all repairs. We will update you as soon as these come in so you know exactly where the money will be spent.

Once again we would like to say how grateful we are for all the donations received so far!!!

As for any of the money leftover, this year we received  a grant from the Scottish Land Fund to help us buy our building and give more control to our community. The grant covers 90% of the costs but we still have to raise some funds to make up the difference. What we would like to do  is put any additional proceeds we receive towards that to further secure the future of the Kinning Park Complex you can find more information about what this means here . Any further questions please contact us directly. Please let us know if this is not ok and that is fine too.

Kinning Park Complex is run by a non profit Community Interest Company and has now been given charitable status by OSCR who are the independent Regulator and registrar for Scotland’s charities. This crowdfunding campaign was set up by two members of staff from the Kinning Park Complex, Clare McIntyre (Communications Officer) and Martin Avila (Development Director). All funds donated will be transferred directly to the Kinning Park Complex Community Interest company as the new charity is in the process of setting up a bank account.

This morning we arrived at our beloved Kinning Park Complex to find it had been broken into last night with an extensive amount of damage.

Our alarm system had been ripped out the wall, windows broken, all of the doors inside broken down or damaged. Destruction and damage to equipment, offices and studios. Our donation boxes destroyed and emptied after a fantastic family day yesterday where we welcomed over 1,000 people into the building including some of the most vulnerable people in the city of Glasgow.

To secure our building and the possessions of the community organisations, artists and musicians housed inside, to prevent the possibility of further security breaches we urgently need:

£1500 to repair and upgrade our alarm system
£1500 for heavy duty security doors and joinery work
£1500 for windows and grates.
£500 for other expenses.

Today we are arranging for a glazier to replace broken windows, and starting the process of securing the building where we can.

Any donation to help us pay for these expenses we are eternally grateful for. We don't have a large reserve of money for such an awful expense. We are in disbelief and it will cost us dearly. Funds which should be invested to support our community activities will have to be reduced to help secure the building.

We are absolutely heartbroken that someone felt the need to cause so much destruction. The upset of those arriving this morning for community activities is devastating to us all. We pride ourselves on being a welcoming space to all with sociable activities including craft workshops, a donation based cafe 3 days a week, a family fun day every Sunday, a programme of educational classes and much more.

Kinning Park Complex is an independent arts and community space based in the South Side of Glasgow. We offer space to local artists, musicians and community groups. Our purpose is to offer a welcoming space with sociable activities that encourages learning, building friendships and freedom from isolation.
