Kanehsatà:ke Flood Damage Relief

Kanehsatà:ke Mohawk Territory is confronting what dozens of other municipalities in Québec have faced in the last few weeks, mass flooding that hasn’t been seen in generations.
Over 40 homes are affected. Even if the water levels will go down, these houses will have to be cleaned out and partially rebuilt including tearing down walls to dry them out.
Given the traumatic history of the 1990 invasion of Kanehsatà:ke by armed forces, known as the “Oka crisis,” the community is understandably not able to accept the help of the armed forces assisting the neighbouring municipality of Oka, and is therefore dependent on civic engagement.

If you are unable to offer your help in person, this campaign is your opportunity to show your support. Governmental funding is only issued retroactively, upon submitted invoices, which causes a huge strain on the Nation. Your contribution will go towards waterproof boots, sandbagging and reconstruction materials, dehumidifiers, heat treatment, and generators (for preventing mold from taking over the houses). Sponsorship of any of these would also be greatly appreciated.
Funds collected go in full and directly to a special account installed by the Kanehsatà:ke Emergency Preparedness Team. From there, funds are distributed among all residents who contributed.

Le territoire Mohawk de Kanehsatà: ke est confronté à ce que des dizaines d'autres municipalités du Québec ont rencontré la semaine dernière, des inondations graves qui n'ont pas été observées depuis des générations.
Plus que 40 maisons sont endommagées. Même si les niveaux d'eau vont descendre, ces maisons devront être nettoyées et reconstruites en partie, y compris les murs qui devront être percés pour les sécher.
Compte tenu de l'histoire traumatique de l'invasion de Kanehsatà:ke par les Forces armées canadiennes de 1990, connue sous le nom de «crise d'Oka», la communauté n'est naturellement pas en mesure d'accepter l'aide des Forces armées qui assistent la municipalité voisine d'Oka et dépend donc de l'engagement civique.

Si vous ne pouvez pas offrir votre aide en personne, cette campagne est l'occasion de montrer votre soutien. L'aide financière gouvernementale n'est accordée que rétroactivement en fonction des factures soumises, ce qui impose une énorme pression sur la Nation. Votre contribution servira à l'achat de matériel comme des bottes imperméables, des sacs de sable, des déshumidificateurs, des materiaux traitement thermique (y compris empêcher la moisissure de prendre en charge les maisons), des générateurs, et des matériaux de reconstruction. Le parrainage de l'un ou l'autre de ces éléments serait également grandement apprécié.
Un compte approprié pour ces fonds a été installé par l'équipe de préparation aux urgences de Kanehsatà:ke (Kanehsatà:ke Emergency Preparedness Team). Les fonds seront ensuite répartis entre toutes et tous les résident.es qui ont contribué.
