The Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Company responds to an average of 1,500 calls each year via 911 throughout Baltimore and Harford Counties. Over 1,000 of these are medical incidents. Occasionally, these medical calls are the worst case scenario - a cardiac arrest. In simple terms, we occasionally have to work extra hard to get someone's heart pumping again. Modern studies show that early defibrillation and effective chest compressions result in the best outcomes. Performing manual chest compressions of high quality is difficult, tiring, unsafe, and sometimes impossible especially during the 20+ minute ride to the nearest hospital. Studies show that mechanically controlled compressions are able to sustain a higher blood flow to the brain and heart compared to manual compressions.
We would like to purchase a LUCAS™ CPR device which has an approximate retail price of $15,000. That price is well outside of anything we can include in our normal budget which already heavily relies on donations. Through special end-of-year pricing and the trade-in/sale of some existing outdated equipment, we only need to raise $5,300 to achieve this purchase. Please help us help you, your family, and your neighbors by making this device accessible in our community when needed. Your donation could literally make the difference in someone's life and is tax deductible!
Please watch the first minute of the video below for a demonstration of the LUCAS.
Thank you,
Chief Andrew Laird and the Officers and Members of the Jacksonville Volunteer Fire Company
