Tragedy -

Days before graduation, a severe headache, loss of balance, and sudden numbness hospitalized Jonah, and every parent’s worst nightmare ensued when doctors discovered a rare, inoperable, and life-threatening tumour invading his brainstem. Jonah watched by video from his hospital bed as his friends graduated and attended prom without him.

Instead of beaming with pride as their bright, athletic, and hardworking son accepted his diploma, Cleon and Charlotte watched with devastation as Jonah endured a brain biopsy and six weeks of chemotherapy and radiation. Instead of bringing him to university to start his adult life, they must bring him to the other side of the world to try and save his life.

Hope -

Having exhausted the medical treatments available in Canada for this rare and aggressive cancer, Jonah must travel to Europe several times over eight months. There, he will receive chemotherapy via Convection Enhanced Delivery (CED) at the world-renowned Harley Street Clinic in London, England. Between chemotherapy infusions in London, a top clinic in Cologne, Germany, will administer leading-edge immunotherapy.

Cost -

This multifaceted attack holds the most promise for a positive outcome, but, since these treatments are not offered in Canada, financial coverage is not available. The anticipated travel and medical costs over eight months are $350,000. These costs include:

- Implanting the CED system
- Chemotherapy
- Immunotherapy
- Supporting medications and supplements
- Diagnostic Scans
- Flights to and from Europe
- Flights within Europe
- Increased living expenses away from home

Dreams -

Jonah is a caring big brother, considerate friend and teammate, and loving son. Countless academic and athletic achievements demonstrate his dedication, determination and work ethic, and he wants a chance to take his seat in the Software Engineering program at the University of Victoria and live out his potential. Unfortunately, hard work and drive won’t be enough for him to overcome this challenge. He cannot do it alone. His family cannot do it on their own.
