Save our Water BC: Jessica Ogden Legal Fees

Unsustainable Logging practices threaten the integrity and health of the forests all across British Columbia and Canada. In our Kootenay Valley, millions of trees are cut down every year and shipped off to become pulp for toilet paper and other such items. In search of economic gain, these complex and ancient alpine landscapes are wiped out, ecosystems destroyed, and the effects are devastating and dreadful. Clearcutting is one of the great stupidities of humankind, and one of the most significant contributing factors to the collapse of life-sustaining ecosystems on our planet. When the trees are all destroyed, we lose air to breathe, water to drink, food to eat and protection from natural disasters. Our governments couldn't care less, and so, it is time to take matters into our own hands.

Above a community called Balfour, alongside the Kootenay Lake near Nelson, BC, such logging practices are currently underway. Dozens of homes in the area have already experienced impacts on their household water supply as the water flows and watershed is destroyed and redirected, or dried up entirely as the landscape in the alpine is raped and ravaged. And this community is just one of many in Canada experiencing the detrimental devastations of deforestation.

Members of the local communities have decided that enough is enough, and took matters into their own hands. On June 16th, a camp was set up at the base of the logging road leading up to the work site, and on June 21, one of the coordinators of the blockade, Jessica Dawn Ogden was arrested when she refused to step aside and allow trucks to pass.

If action is not taken by people like you, within the decade, this beautiful world we live in will be a much different place. The impacts of Climate Change are devastating, and when we as a species contribute to the acceleration of deforestation, we contribute to the acceleration of our extinction. By shaving down the forests, destroying the natural landscape and leaving the soil barren and unprotected, we destroy the systems that absorb, filter and transport water. Water is life, and without it, there can be no life. Removing the health of an ecosystem has many massive impacts on all of the aspects of the environment interconnected with that ecosystem. Increased chance of fire, drought, landslide, increased winds, floods, disease and death of the animals reliant on the forests and biodiversity. When we kill our forests, we destroy ourselves.

This fund is to assist Jessica Dawn Ogden in her legal battle, and all further proceedings will go towards the purchase of forested land to protect and conserve moving forwards.

Any help is much appreciated if you can't come and support your future, then donate to help the movement gain momentum. We will all be affected by this ignorance; therefore, we must all act against it as best as we can.
