Despite his courageous and spirited struggle, Jason Walker succumbed to his cancer battle on September 21, 2017, his obituary is copied below. We are repurposing this fundraising effort with dual objectives: to defray his significant accrued medical expenses, and to contribute to the further education of his children. Please consider donating with those aims in mind, and also please join us in celebrating Jason's life on Saturday, September 30 at 5 P.M. at Lansing's Royal Scot Golf Course, the details for which are included below.

Jason William Walker, 48, of Grayling (formerly of Grand Ledge), passed away on September 21, 2017.

He was born on July 9, 1969 in Lansing, Michigan to Gary and Ginger (Belcik) Walker.  He graduated from Grand Ledge High School in 1987.  Following high school, he attended local community college and then began his career working in the construction trades.  He was blessed with the birth of his first child, daughter Ericka, in 1991.  He met the love of his life, Cindy Sabin, in February 1994.  The couple relocated to Arizona in October of that same year.  They were married in Scottsdale, Arizona on October 7, 1995 and were later blessed with two sons, Logan and Chase.  A highly skilled carpenter and mason by trade, his career took the family to many different states, eventually settling in Grayling, Michigan.  The highlight of Jason’s career was in December 2016 when he had the privilege of being one of five men hand-selected by Christman Constructors Inc. to travel to Cuba to work on the historical preservation of the Ernest Hemingway Estate; only the best were chosen for this unique opportunity.

His children remember him as a goofy and sarcastic man.  His son-in-law remembers him as a major hard-ass.  He was always willing to embarrass his children at any given opportunity, especially by dancing the Cabbage Patch.  More importantly, he was always doing what he could to make those he cared about laugh.  His warm smile, infectious laugh and fun-loving sense of humor touched everyone he knew.  He was an avid hunter but never seemed to be able to get his scope properly sighted.  He explored life with an open spirit and a “Git-‘r-done” attitude.  He took life by the balls and made it his own.  He was a very talented carpenter and always did whatever he could to be sure the job was done right.  He made extraordinary sacrifices, including traveling for extended periods for his job, because he was dedicated to bettering the lives of his family.  Throughout his lifetime, he made lasting relationships, partly because of his character and partly because he could help them with their next home project.

Survived by his wife, Cindy, of 22 years.
Children: Ericka (Miguel) Rivera of Lansing; Logan and Chase Walker of Grayling.
Parents: Gary and Ginger Walker of Grand Ledge.
Grandmother: Donna Walker
Sisters: Nicole (Daren) Bebee of Grand Ledge and Tiffani (Chris) Turner of Brighton.
Father-in-law and Mother-in-law: David and Sheryll Sabin of Grayling.

Also survived by several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at Royal Scot of Lansing, 4722 W. Grand River Ave. Lansing, MI 48906 starting at 5:00p; dinner at 6:00p.

God looked around his garden
And found an empty space
Then He looked down upon this earth
And saw your tired face
He put his arms around you
And lifted you to rest
God’s garden must be beautiful
He only takes the best.

My brother-in-law, Jason Walker, has been recently diagnosed with inoperable Stage IV Pancreatic Cancer, his oncologist stating that his condition as “incurable.” While he explores alternative treatment options, Jason is unable to work and the family has already experienced significant financial hardships. In addition to the medical expenses they have already incurred, the alternative treatment program's costs are $21,500.

All of these stories on GoFundMe are compelling, and Jason's is no different, but certainly meaningful to us. Jason is a skilled and industrious supporter of his family -- daughter, Ericka, and sons Logan and Chase -- and also recently learned that he and wife Cindy are to be first-time grandparents this November.

From Jason, in his own words: "I am trying to stay positive and have been making dietary changes to help my body fight this. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts and prayers during this challenging time."

We had the opportunity to visit with Jason and Cindy this weekend, so I wanted to say that spirits are positive, treatment is ongoing, and provide updated photos.

But also, importantly, Jason has been unable to work, and day-to-day living costs, along with treatment, continue to impact the family. Again, we would like to request everyone to consider spreading the word via email, text message, Facebook, and Twitter in support of the Walker family.
