Jamaica Dehydrator Project

Donation protected
Hello. My name is Miguel Joaquin, a freshman honors student studying at Milwaukee School of Engineering. I, along with other MSOE freshman honor students in my group, are raising money for our Jamaica Dehydrator Project.
This project involves building a solar food dehydrator mainly for schoolchildren in the Minto school of Hagely Gap, Jamaica. In addition to building a dehydrator that produces dried mango slices, this project involves educating schoolchildren in operating the dehydrator and creating a business plan. This project also enables Blue Mountain Project to start a revenue-generating business for the school and community by selling dried mangoes to potential customers locally and internationally.
As of right now, we have been awarded a grant from the National Science Foundation through their Innovation Corps program, and we are actively pursuing business partnerships for the people of the Hagley Gap. Two of our members, Joshua Shefner and Jessica Bade, have also discussed this project at the Milwaukee-based startup incubator known as The Commons.

All of this work we have done was requested of us back in September 2015 by the Blue Mountain Project, a nonprofit group based in Jamaica. The target goal is to fly to Jamaica in mid to late May and build the dehydrator there before we go back to the United States in early June. Although we have been awarded grants for the project, that is not solely enough to financially get this project off the ground. So with your donations, our project would be much closer to becoming a reality. We are not asking for much, but anything that would help us out would do.  And even if we reach our goal, I encourage potential donors to keep giving to this campaign. Any extra donations would help our group reduce travel costs, get more materials, invest more on improving the current design, and even prepare more dehydrators that could be used in the near future. Our group believes that this project can do great things, and your donations can help us make this possible.
Personally, it is exciting for me to embrace this challenge to help out people in Jamaica and to take this opportunity to learn new things about life in countries other than the United States. It would be helpful if donations can be made ASAP before we prepare to leave in mid to late May. So on behalf of the MSOE Jamaica Dehydrator Project group, I thank you very much in taking time to consider this project as a possible choice for donations.
