Jake from Budapest to PNG

Dear Family and Friends,

I’m writing from my heart to yours                                                                       

I am going on a mission trip to serve in the lesser developed country of Papua New Guinea. It is an island country just north of Australia. 

 I will be working in three general areas – medical, construction, and education.

·      Medical – assist patients and help give out vaccines

·      Construction – mix concrete, mill timber, build medical and educational facilities, and staff housing. Plus build furniture, paint, and maintenance work.

·      Classroom – assist in grades from K-12

 I know those are a lot of different ways, but I will do my best to share the gospel with every opportunity I am given. 

 
I want to see God at work spiritually and physically in ways other than I have seen in Hungary. I've enjoyed the culture and all that I have learned here. I have especially enjoyed seeing the different ways God has interacted with the people of this culture. I want to see the same thing in Papua New Guinea and I want to play an active role in helping that happen. 

 I saw this picture of the Last Supper. It is not the disciples with Jesus in this picture. These people are from different cultures, races, histories, and backgrounds.

Until I read that caption I thought everyone had their own American English translator in their head. After seeing this picture I realize that God engages each culture personally. I want to see how God engages the people of Papua New Guinea. 

 
I want to see the smiles on the children's faces as we play and sing and learn about Jesus. 

I want to see the smiles on the faces of the men as they are grateful for an extra set of hands to help.

I want to see the smiles of the patients as they realize others care for their lives and safety.

 I will be working with Jesse and Karie Pryor of the ApMa Project (www.oipng.com). Jesse grew up in Papua New Guinea and now has been serving there with his own family since 2004.
