Hello everyone,

We are two young Inuit/Mohawk siblings who have created this emergency fundraiser because we need real support.

Our family moved to Norway nine months ago to live in a small Northern Sami village with our extended Sami family.

This leaves us without any real support system since the both of us (twins) already struggle to take care of ourselves (as traumatized survivors, mentally ill  2-spirit indigenous youth, among other intersecting identities), while we also deal with multiple ongoing violences directed at us on the daily.

Our return to Canada is abrupt and alarming, we have with us little but our suitcases and have run out of our food money (and any other for that matter).

We are under considerable distress without any concrete plan or reassurance that we can secure jobs, a place to live or have money for food to eat for the next three months.

As two young Inuit/Mohawk siblings we are already extremely vulnerable to systematic and daily racism, navigating daily life means struggling to survive; and in this precarious situation we have absolutely no security.

We would like to ask for your support  to helps us at least meet our minimum needs for survival, this is a very stressful and intense time for our family to have to be separated like this.

We are asking for funds to meet our basic needs. Our priorities are food and a safe place to live.

Any money for food, temporary lodging and public transportation would be extremely appreciated.

If possible, please share within your networks if you can't donate. Any support would be appreciated.

To make this more accessible we've also included an e-mail to accept e-transfers/Paypal:

**The fundraising goal does not reflect the total amount we would have access to if we were to reach our goal, considering this platform takes a 2.9%+$0.30/$1 (processing) fee, which equals about taking more than 1/3rd of the total amount raised.**

We are siblings now living in part of our traditional kanien'kehá:ka (Mohawk) territory of Tio'tia:ke (Montreal) for the next three months.

Hi everyone,

Thank you so much for your support. Your kindness has gone a long way. It has ensured some shelter and food.

Throughout our time here we have not been able to secure stable housing, resulting in moving around every few nights for precarious and temporary sleeping situations, for the past five months. We have had many offers of a safe and stable space to inhabit, but they all fell through as a result of inherent, insidious racism (and other -isms) manifesting when we actually acted on the offers.

It has been extremely exhausting, not to mention even more expensive than if we had one safe, stable place to stay, as we constantly move every couple of nights, and have no access to storing and cooking food, as a result we depend on take-out and taxi and Uber to go from one place to the next. We already have mobility issues but this is compounded by homelessness, and packing and unpacking every other day is traumatizing and draining. It gives us no chance to accumulate funds to go towards a stable housing situation.

It has also been impossible to find work as I have been waiting on legal documents that are required for a SIN, but am constantly pushed back in receiving them as documents have been lost through the post and re-printed more than once, and when I showed up for a passport my newly issued birth certificate was not considered valid Canadian citizenship. When I think I am in the final stages of receiving my new identity documents something else shows up. We originally planned to make the journey back on November 1 and use my purchased ticket to request an emergency passport, but that plan fell through because I do not have a cellphone in which I can answer calls from the service office. This has resulted in extending our stay here, costing us hundreds for additional 12 days worth of lodging, food, and transportation.

Fortunately I am in the final steps of receiving the passport (albeit its only a temporary 2-year one because I did not have the required documents to apply for a 5 or 10 year one even though I have been consistently fighting for my documents for the past five months) and we are set to travel back to Norway where we can be assured basic housing and food for at least a couple of months. From having to apply for new documents, meeting with a commissioner, sending documents, changing flights three times and ordering a rush passport, on top of still being homeless, costs have increased exponentially. We are about to travel internationally with nothing, and would appreciate donations so we can have a safe journey and peace of mind that we have an emergency fund to go back on, and most importantly, food. Please share the fundraiser again if you cannot donate, and if you can, donations are more conveniently received through e-transfers (ramentwinster @ gmail . com).

Nia:wen, nakuurmik, and thank you!
