Lebensraum für das Amazonasvolk der Huni Kuin

(English text below)

---------------

The deforestation of the Amazon rainforest - the "green lung of the earth" - has made massive progress with Brazil's right-wing extremist government. This means not only the destruction of the livelihoods of indigenous peoples and the flora and fauna, but also a massive acceleration of climate change. And thus a threat to the entire planet, to the livelihoods of all of us. But nobody protects these livelihoods better than those indigenous people who have learned to live in harmony with nature for thousands of years. We can learn from them to live in connection with ourselves, our environment and other beings, to understand ourselves as part of it and to use our natural resources sustainably.

The Huni Kuin people live in the Brazilian Amazon region on the border with Peru and Bolivia. They are carriers of ancient knowledge about the healing power of plants and social cohesion, but at the same time victims of forced labour, expulsion and genocide. Many of them have fled the threat of brutal raw material hunters and the destruction of their habitats to the big city of Rio Branco, where they continue to suffer misery.

Our project partner Mapu Huni Kuin is a young leader of his people. By founding the resettlement- and cultural centre Huwã Karu Yuxibu, he and his family want to counteract the destruction of the cultural and natural resources of the indigenous peoples and the rainforest.

The centre is a cultural, collaborative and sustainable initiative to restore the living space, cultural identity and future prospects of the Huni Kuin who fled to the city. Among other things, traditional medicine is to be researched, medicinal plants cultivated and a lively exchange of knowledge between indigenous and non-indigenous people cultivated - for example through awareness-raising workshops for non-indigenous schools and teachers in the region.

In order to realise the project, first of all land must be bought. 30,000 euros are still missing for this. And we want to collect them here with your help.

About us:

The Kapa Yuxibu Association for the Protection of the Environment by Indigenous Peoples has been registered as a non-profit association in Vienna under the ZVR number 1702335815 since April 2019. If you are interested, we will gladly send you the statutes by email.

Chairman is Klaus Werner-Lobo, author, trainer and coach in Vienna, human rights activist and former member of the state parliament of Vienna (https://www.werner-lobo.at). Deputy chairman is Mapu Huni Kuin (civil name Adaildo Borges Sereno Kaxinawa, since indigenous self-designations could not be officially registered in Brazil at that time). He is the founder, political and spiritual leader of the Huwã Karu Yuxibu centre he founded near Rio Branco, capital of the Brazilian state of Acre in the Amazon region.

Purpose of the association according to the statutes:

The association, whose activity is not aimed at profit, aims at the protection of the environment by indigenous peoples in Brazil and by the preservation of their habitats and cultures, as well as the promotion and dissemination of their ecological, social, cultural and human rights concerns in Europe.

Use of funds:

One hundred percent after deduction of the official money transfer and exchange fees of the donations will only be used for the purchase of land and construction material for the Huni Kuin centre as well as for reforestation and plantation. All members of the association work on an honorary basis, so there are no administrative costs or personal income. The funds are either handed over personally or transferred from the association's account to an account in Brazil where Mapu Huni Kuin and the Huwã Karu Yuxibu Centre have direct access. Progress will be regularly reported here.

We are happy to answer more detailed questions about the project.

Thank you and Haux haux!
