International Humanitarian Aid

Donation protected
With a $10 donation towards my international humanitarian mission we can collectively make the world a better place. I have the education, training, experience, equipment and opportunity to alleviate suffering and help stabilize a region. As a member of our society I therefore have the responsibility to help. I will successfully complete this important mission with or without your support.

The second half of a job that I started months ago would have covered the cost of the flight when ticket prices were only $1000. Sadly, the job was unexpectedly postponed and I was not able to raise the additional amount needed in time. As I expected ticket prices have increased yet again from $1500 to $1800.

It does not matter the country I am going to nor who I will help; we must transition towards a caring society that takes action in helping others or everything will continue to deteriorate like it has. I will be donating approximately $5K worth of International Survival Kits [ISK], nutritional food, high-end drone quadcopter, medical/first-aid and humanitarian supplies.

I will buy most of my supplies in the region to further support the local economy and eliminate additional weight on the flight. I have not owned or driven a car for over 3 years. That alone offsets one annual international flight’s carbon emissions compared to the average person that drives every day. Additionally, I am not a rich business man on a private jet or tourist on a holiday vacation walking around taking pictures. I am a first responder going to “volunteer” and help people who are severely suffering while trying to survive without even the essentials of our everyday life. Even a $10 donation will help me reach my goal and get to where I need to be.

I live in Santa Cruz, California USA. From 2000-2002 I worked for two major TV stations before becoming an independent, freelance photojournalist. I focus on stories that will benefit humanity and our environment by documenting historic events. I usually incorporate a message to either raise awareness of a crisis or inspire compassion towards a tragic event; hazmat cleanup projects, protests, riots, lightning storms, wildfires, floods, sink holes, earthquakes, landslides, snowstorms, car accidents and a commuter train crash. I have been tornado chasing in Oklahoma, covered the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans and the aftermath of Super Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. I have been through three hurricanes: Gustav in 2008, Isaac in 2013 and Sandy in 2013. I was also in Ghana during the peak of the Ebola Outbreak.

My images have been featured on CNN, NBC, CBS, FOX, ABC, KSBW, Associated Press (AP), World News (WN), Philippine National News and many other news media outlets. I have been published in newspapers a combined 32 times; The Huffington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, LA Times, Santa Cruz Sentinel, Mercury News, Reno Gazette Journal, Santa Cruz Good Times and Reno News & Review. I have been interviewed by Anonymous (the international cyber hacking group) as well as KSCO, KTOK and KRXA radio stations. I recently filmed, edited, directed and produced a 9-minute environmental public service announcement. It covers consumerism, pollution, fire prevention and is uploaded to my Facebook as well as YouTube channel!! The images that I captured during the aftermath of Super Typhoon Haiyan were used in a music video that was shared 105k times on Facebook alone. The music was written and produced by Jim Paredes to thank the world for their response during the aftermath of the storm.

After being witness to so much destruction, death, mass suffering and failed international humanitarian responses, I was driven to make a difference and became involved in emergency services. I spent 8 years studying at Cabrillo College mainly in the medical field, environmental sciences and journalism. I took all of the Red Cross classes to become a disaster relief volunteer. I have completed the Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) course at the Felton Fire Station. I now have over 16-years of experience as a photojournalist providing relief aid in several third world countries. I have worked with the military, aid organizations or independently transporting supplies, body recovery, volunteering in hospitals and many other important tasks. I consider myself a hybrid photojournalist, environmentalist, humanitarian and activist. It is when the scope of the disaster overwhelmed local and regional resources that an international response is needed. Last year I started an international company called “Advanced Disaster Relief.” I have been able to make it into critical areas in the past to provide immediate medical aid and disaster relief. I am not a complex military or multinational organization that takes 1-2 weeks to deploy. I usually arrived in the areas severely impacted before the military and nonprofit organizations to where I can immediately help people who needed it the most. Also most nonprofits spend the majority of their donation money towards their own administrative cost. I spend 100% of the money towards helping the people affected by the disaster. My latest self-deployed mission was volunteering in Nepal during the 2015 earthquake aftermath, living in the epicenter for a month treating victims and helping them in their recovery.

I currently have $5k in emergency equipment and medical supplies that I would take on my next mission. I would donate hundreds of International Survival Kit [ISK] which is my company product sold in 10 California store locations. It consists of 40 first aid and survival items packaged in a compact, durable Mylar bag. In an emergency scenario the ISK is designed to be distributed after a disaster to bridge the gap before additional help and resources arrive. The ISK will help save lives, alleviate suffering and prevent malnutrition. I would organize sponsors for additional supplies before I go and possibly recruit a team for the mission. I also have approximately 200 pounds of clean and new clothes that I will donate to the people that have lost everything.

I try to do positive things in my community such as passing out plastic bag rain jackets to the homeless before a major storm or organize beach cleanup projects. My largest environmental accomplishment was when I organized was a mass tire removal project. I had recruited 30 volunteers through Facebook within one week and together removed over 1000 tires that had been deteriorating in the Santa Cruz Redwood Forest for 35 years. I am always trying my best to be a good person and set a good example. To help get my message out and reach more people, I have given speech presentations a total of 10 times to either groups, middle school or college classes. I strongly appreciate every place this page link is posted and shared. Please help me raise the money I need to be successful on my next project mission.
