Summer's coming. Every kid should have the opportunity to go to summer camp! In TWO WEEKS, we are trying to raise fund so Lincoln kids can experience going to summer camp for the first time!
Summer vacation is one of the predominant causes of the achievement gap in America's schools. Unlike middle- and higher-income youth who typically spend their summers engaged in enrichment programs, the vast majority of low-income youth have little or no access to such opportunities. 11% of 6-12 year olds spend 10 hours/week alone in the summer. At Lincoln's Oakland Freedom Schools summer program on average gain a full year increase in instructional reading levels. Can you imagine the impact on lives that would have?!
