Hope & Aid for Korean Orphans #요리천사

There is a dire need for career opportunity and support for orphans in Korea. By law, these children are forced out of the orphanages at 18 years of age with a stipend of around $4,500. Finding a decent place to live, continuing their education, and even finding menial jobs are extremely difficult because of their status as orphans. This kind of discrimination and cultural bias are unfortunately prevalent in Korea.

Yori Chunsa, meaning Chef Angels in Korean, is a non-profit organization I founded in 2016 to aid and support orphans in Korea. Our projects include a group of talented and devoted chefs cooking for orphans every week to introduce them to new flavors and ingredients. We will also be training these children to become line cooks and ultimately chefs through a mentorship/apprenticeship program. As chefs we know how rewarding our profession is and would love to share the knowledge and skills it takes to become one.

As of now I have funded this program myself but now I am asking friends for help. 100% of the proceeds go to the children. Let me know if you'd like to help.

Yori Chunsa is now in our third year cooking for the children at Sionwon Orphanage in Seoul, Korea. Our first year we had 7 chefs taking turns each week cooking their hearts out for the children. We now have 19 chefs doing the same which means the children are enjoying an amazing variety of cuisines and experiencing many styles and techniques in the foods prepared for them. All this is tremendous help while we train them to become chefs in the future.

I am starting another round of fundraising to make sure we get to year #4. We need to raise a bit of money to help offset costs for food transport and extra cooks each week while cooking for the children. All the chefs in korea and staff in NY work pro-bono. Please donate if you can. Anything and everything helps!

Yori Chunsa is a 501c3 non-profit organization and all donations may be tax deductible. Please email me with any questions Hooni@YoriChunsa.org. Thank you once again!

I hope everyone is enjoying this weekend with friends and family celebrating this holiday season. The year is ending and I will be going to korea next month to recruit and confirm 12 new/returning chefs/restaurants to cook for and train our children at Sionwon Orphanage in 2018.

It has been an amazing inaugural year for Yori Chunsa. We're opening hearts and training palates of these children at Sionwon. Every single week our Yori Chunsa chefs visit the orphanage to cook for them so they have an opportunity to become a cook and go on to have a career as a chef in the future.

I am attaching some pictures of what happens every Wednesdays at Sionwon. Also I am asking friends to give another donation so we can be funded for next year and every year after hopefully. Thank you again and please remember how lucky we are during these holidays and give to those who aren't as lucky...

We are hosting our first fundraising event for Yori Chunsa on April 15, 2017 in Washington, DC. I'm cooking alongside some amazing chefs to raise money for this special dinner event at Mandu restaurant. The main event on Saturday will be a 5 course tasting menu at $75/pp.

The Friday night before we will have several more chefs join us in a very casual "anju" party where we will all be cooking food that pairs well with liquor.

Come down to DC and join us both nights! Please email events@mandudc.com for reservations. A big thank you to Danny Lee of Mandu DC who is organizig and hosting these events!

Just came back from Korea after launching Yori Chunsa! I was moved by the reaction from the children as well as the chefs. So many people to thank for this to have gone as well as it could have. More detailed stories will come in the future but the big news is we've launched! We're 3 weeks in now cooking amazing food for the children of Zion Home every week. We will continue to do this while preparing for the next step which is to teach the children who are interetsed how to become chefs!
