The Life Center (TLC) Provides a home for Moms and their babies seeking shelter! TLC offers housing and so much more.
The Life Center of Hernando, Inc., a faith-based (501 c3) agency, promotes healthy family development, self-sufficiency, and independence to single mothers and their children who are at risk of homelessness.
The Life Center of Hernando (TLC) has a vision. We will empower young women to recognize and to strengthen moral character, self-discipline, and determination to succeed as loving mothers and productive citizens of their community.
Our volunteer staff minister to our families in a way that creates lasting bonds and provides a family style atmosphere. For many of our residents, this is the first time they have experienced this. We set loving guidelines to help moms achieve their desired goals. There are both consequences and rewards. For most moms, their TLC experience is life changing.
Our focus is on obtaining essential documents, education, life skills, financial responsibility, parenting and maintaining a healthy, safe environment for their children. Sometimes our moms stay with us for up to three years. It can take that long to have a baby, finish school and become employed. Moms begin their own recovery. Children are enrolled in daycare. Our families are directed to community services for health and dental needs, affordable housing and spiritual guidance.
In its six years of operation The Life Center of Hernando, located in Brooksville, Fl., has expanded twice in an attempt to meet the growing need for services in our community. We are forced to deny shelter to desperate clients because of lack of space. We are limited in what we can offer the current clients because of lack of space. We are greatly hindered in carrying out the various aspects of our program that are essential to fulfilling our mission.
TLC is a fantastic program! It is life changing. It is an answer for a desperate pregnant woman who wants to parent her child when he is born.
There is one thing wrong and it is a big thing. We can only house five families at a time. Other families are turned away almost weekly. TLC provides a much needed service and we have no where else to refer moms when we are full. We can’t imagine that those we turn away end up in a safe environment.
The solution is to expand our program. We have our eyes on the “perfect” property that is currently for sale. It include numerous buildings. Unfortunately it is going to require more money than we can raise alone.
In order to better serve our community, The Life Center of Hernando, is seeking to expand by acquiring additional property and renovating as needed to meet program requirements necessary to provide urgent services needed for the Brooksville community.
The buildings and space available would be a perfect match for our mission and needs.

TLC is a grass roots project that started with nothing. We raised all our own funds to get where we are. We can maintain what we have now, but in order to help more families, we need your help. Our community is very supportive, but we need more if we are to provide for those homeless families who reach out to us for help.
