Home Makeover: Emma Edition

Donation protected
Three Year Old, Emma Basting was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma (a rare form of childhood cancer) on December 13, 2017, shortly after her 2nd birthday. She was life-flighted to U of M Masonic Children's Hospital where chemotherapy was started right away. Unfortunately, Emma's tumor continued to grow compressing her spine and by Christmas Day she was paralyzed from the chest down. She spent over 15 months living in the hospital. She has gone through 6 rounds of chemo, a stem cell transplant, 20 rounds of radiation, 6 rounds of immunotherapy, 3 major surgeries and countless procedures and sedations.

After all of this...Emma has finally come home! The next challenge she faces is needing a wheelchair accessible home.

Emma is currently confined to a makeshift bed on the floor in the family's living room because of carpet that she cannot move her wheelchair on and hallways and doorways that she cannot fit through with her wheelchair. Giving Emma her mobility back will help with her overall health, well being, and give her childhood back to her.

Blueprints have been drawn up for the remodel and addition needed for Emma, including: larger kitchen and living room, therapy room, first-floor bedroom and accessible bathroom, wider doorways, wheelchair ramps and a garage for loading and unloading Emma out of the elements.

The team at MAK Construction has decided to take on this project and help Emma and her family with the construction of a newly remodeled, wheelchair accessible home. Being that this project is 100% donation based, we are actively looking for suppliers, vendors and cash donations to get this project rolling. We are hoping we can come together as a community and help this little girl live her best life! We will be updating this page often, so please follow along with the progress of this special home addition for sweet Emma!

If you have further questions of how you can help, please contact MAK Construction at [phone redacted].

*** The family has also set up the Emma Basting Fund at Alerus banks if you choose to make a cash donation in lieu of GoFundMe.
