Help Lee's Mission

The man in the middle's Lee, and this is his story.

Lee's lived a long life: grew up on the East Coast; owned his own business; had a family...the American dream, but eventually, his dream faded.

Life happened (even war) and so did a lot of other things. After he closed his business, he moved and became a truck driver and really loved his job.

After four years of driving, he was unable to pass the physical exam and was told to quit. Actually, they told him he wouldn't live much longer, so he sold all he had and decided to live off his savings, figuring the money would outlive him. He was wrong.

Four years later, his money ran out, but his body didn't, so he ended up on the street without a home, job, or money and became a part of the homeless populous.

Two years ago, he followed the nice weather and ended up in San Diego. As he got off the bus, a man told him the best place to be homeless was Balboa Park, so that's where he's been ever since.


A little over a year ago, I met Lee on my lunch break in Balboa Park, and we became friends. I'd visit him daily, and would, eventually, bring him to my home for visits, so he could shower, shave, eat, rest, sit on the couch...things we take for granted.

A couple weeks ago, after one of his stays with me and my kids, he thanked me for the hospitality and told me that, because of it, he's decided to go back East, collect his Social Security, and find himself a place to live, and THAT's what this fund is about.

You see, Lee had given up on life, on people, on the system: he was content to live on the streets, until he died. Now, he wants to LIVE! 


A few of us are buying him a bus ticket and supplying him with some money for food and thought others may want to help, as well. He rarely has anything, so a little will go a long way!
