With the help of my community, I am grateful to finally launch an alternative to screens, "The Magical Adventures of Mr. Green Pony, a program of audio stories and educational activities that develop listening skills, memory retention and grow the imagination Through friendship with nature, Mr. Green Pony and his companions take magical adventures as they learn how to be kind, brave and green. CHECK OUT MRGREENPONY.COM and help a child discover their imagination!
**I STILL NEED YOUR SUPPORT: There is more work to do to educate parents and caregivers about the growing brain and the consequences of screens. Research just published last month found that too much screen time is changing little brains, and not for the better. Kids who reported more screen time showed lower levels of development in the white matter of the brain where language, literacy and cognitive skills develop.
Young children who spend a lot time on screens aren’t using their imaginations or exploring their environments. And, they are learning to use screens as a distraction or way to self-soothe, something that later on often leads to addiction and an inability to deal with emotions in a healthy way.
With your support, we can SPEAK up about an issue that not a lot of people are willing to tackle:
A DONATION TODAY WILL HELP CREATE:
· A public awareness campaign about screen time in early childhood and how it affects brain development. (I’m already working with state legislators on this possibility!)
· Development of a training for child care providers on screen time and its effects on small children.
· Sharing the Mr. Green Pony early learning program to serve as a quality alternative to screen-time both to parents and to preschool programs. Aim to serve at-risk, low income children with FREE stories & educational activities. (I am partnering with another non-profit on this)
As a grandmother, it would mean so much to me to be able to spread this to more than just a few children. This is about more than just some stories, it’s about making sure kids are doing what they are meant to do - play, be interactive and use their imaginations! This ensures a better future for all of us!
