Help Wally Eat (His gov assistance was haulted)

Hello!

*NOTE*  THIS IS NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE SHUT DOWN.  THIS IS BECAUSE THERE WERE MASSIVE CUTS TO SOCIAL BENEFITS.

My friend Wally is the greatest person and happens to be a bit down on his luck.  Long story short, all of his family has passed. This left him with a lot of bills.  He also has a condition that prevents him from working steady jobs. However, he does the best he can!  He takes any job he can physically handle and he does it with a smile!  However, he cannot always make ends meet.  I want to make VERY clear that he is NOT an addict of any kind.  Life dealt him a tough hand, but he greets everyday with an upbeat personality that brings cheer to everyone he meets

Let me explain what kind of person he is: Once, my purse got stolen in my neighborhood.  Someone was trying to sell my ID and credit cards.  Wally retrieved the items and brought them back to me. My credit card company told me no (false) activity had been used on my card.  Wally got my identity back to me immediately!!

Also, I have had multiple encounters with aggressive men in my neighborhood who won't leave me alone.  Once a man was secretly taking pictures of me when I would walk my dog.  He made fliers, with my picture, name and address.  He posted them all over my neighborhood (on buildings, under car windshields, on lamp posts, fences,...etc)  I've had men follow me and film me while I walk down the street in my large, puffy, winter coat, while I minded my own business.  When I told Wally what was happening, he leaped into action.  The guy with the fliers came back to my neighborhood and Wally chased him out.  And with the guy who was filming me, Wally stood in between myself and the man to protect me (and my dog, who I was walking at the time).  These are just two examples of how this man has impacted my life.  (Please understand, that I am not a helpless person, but I am a tiny woman...and violence against women is very real.  I am thrilled that he recognizes that!)

So, why does he need help?

He has managed to maintain a place to live.  Before very recently,  there could be a gap in his government assistance and he would stand outside the local grocery store and ask people for a sandwich or a coffee (never money).   I've known him to do this for years.  In that time, he has also become my friend.  He always asks how my family is. If I'm on the phone withmy mom or sister when I run into Wally, he talks to them on the phone too!

Due to our currently government, his food stamps have been completely cut off.   So, he stands outside everyday now (in all kinds of weather...it's going to be 6 degrees (f) tomorrow!). He usually asks for a sandwich (philly cheesesteak!)  and a coffee.

I'm hoping we can raise some money for Wally so he can feed himself for an extended period of time.

*I know some awful people had a scam about helping a "homeless" person.  Way to ruin it for the rest of us who want to help someone! UGH! Please know, this is NOT that situation.  If there was a "testimonials" page on here, it would be full of love for our neighborhood fixture!

I am debating whether I should buy a grocery card or give him money.  I'm happy for suggestions.  (I've never done a gofundme, so I don't know if I can have suggestions!)

Anyways, IF you're still reading... THANK YOU! Please consider donating! Every little bit helps!
