FRIENDS AND FAMILY,

The Rohingya Refugee Crisis doesn’t get much news coverage, so most people have no idea what it is. Simply, the Rohingya people are a Muslim minority in Rakhine, Myanmar and are one of the longest and most persecuted people in history. Their government turns a blind eye to their plight and genocide. The Burmese security forces do their very best to cleanse the Rohingya people. Burmese security forces have decapitated parents and children alike. They murder and rape senselessly. The Rohingya people are massacred, pillaged, and forgotten by their government and the world alike. Over half a million Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh in escape of such horrors, but more than 120,000 remain internally displaced, forced to a life of desperate nomadism. These people are starving, homeless, plagued with disease, and hunted. Humanitarian efforts for this cause have slowly gained traction in recent years, but they are still in need of immediate care. The Rohingya Fundraising Event will use all proceeds to ensure that the Rohingya get food, water, shelter, and other basic needs. The United Nations declares it the fasting growing refugee crisis in the world.

That is why our club, the United Muslim Service Alliance, at Adlai E. Stevenson High School in Lincolnshire, Illinois has created the Rohingya Refugee Fundraising Campaign. For our 2018-2019 annual fundraising initiative, we have chosen to raise money for the United Nations Refugee Agency who are actively assisting the victims of the Rohingya Humanitarian Crisis that have been facing discrimination, violence, and extreme poverty for decades. Your contributions to our campaign will be withdrawn and donated directly to the United Nations Refugee Agency on behalf of the students at Adlai E. Stevenson High, to assist their life-saving efforts for the Rohingya people.

According to the UNHCR's official website, all of the funding will go towards:
-helping the government to develop new sites to safely accommodate refugees
-strengthening their shelters
-dredging and renovating canals
-promoting the health of girls and women
-minimizing hunger
-addressing health risks

The UN and its partners are also doing much more and addressing longer-term challenges like education, registration, and programs to protect the most vulnerable refugees – including children, women, and people with specific needs. All of these vital efforts require robust funding and support; That is why we are grateful for your contribution's to our campign.

Thank you for helping us with our initiative this year,
