This week, we received some very devastating and heartbreaking news. What we thought was an allergic reaction, turned out to be cancer of Pitou's lymphatic system.
We were able to get Pitou in the next day to see the Oncologist at Mississauga Oakville Veterinary Emergency Hospital.
The vet explained that we were lucky to notice something was not quite right and to get Pitou help as quickly as we did, because most dogs are brought in at much later stages of this disease. She also explained that Pitou is a perfect candidate for treatment, with his great blood profile and his age on his side. Pitou's lymphoma has a 50/50 chance of going into remission, with at least one round of chemotherapy treatments.
While still stunned and absolutely heart-sick with this horrible and unimaginable news that our little boy could be sick, let alone, have cancer, Michele and I both immediately concluded that Pitou has way too much life left in him; too many people to love and entertain; and way too much love to give and more lives to touch. He simply is not ready to go!
We decided to immediately begin chemotherapy treatments at MOVEH, for the next 24 weeks. We will continue to listen to Pitou and the advice of vets every step of the way, and will NEVER inflict any further pain or suffering on him. We just can't sit back and watch the Love of our Lives, slip away on us too soon -- not if we have a chance to help him.
Any money raised will go towards Pitou's medical expenses and first round of chemo treatments over the next 24 weeks.
While we can appreciate that a few people may question our decision, we ask that you not share any negative viewpoints online. Although, I doubt that any of our friends would ever do that, I must ask, as we are struggling enough and only want to hear words of encouragement. Anyone who knows Pitou, knows exacty why we are doing this and knows that he is a fighter and a real trooper!
