A lot of you have seen the post going around Facebook (courtesy of Noah Peed) about me helping a gentleman who has had a tough life. Well now, I am reaching out for a little help. I make a decent living as an officer but honestly, it’s getting a little expensive. I don’t want to give specific numbers but I have already paid out a substantial amount to keep Mike at the hotel.
It is not my goal to achieve recognition for what I am doing, my goal is to show a 51 year old man, who spent much of his childhood, in and out of foster care that society does care. I will be the first to say that my 16 years in law enforcement has made me less trusting of people but something about Mike made me want to help.
Mike is not a perfect man, he’s had his troubles with the law but is at an age where he is growing tired of “that life” and wants to have a job, a home for he and his dog, peace and quiet. I am working with him on how to handle things a little better than he has and he has been very receptive to my advice.
Mike does have a job at the moment! It’s temporary but we have a couple things lined up. One of the best opportunities he has is on the west side of Columbus, where I currently have his room. It’s within walking distance of the hotel (Mike has never had a license or car). I want to keep Mike at the hotel so he can get this job and be a self reliant person. Without the room, he and his dog will be back on the street, loweing his odds of being able to get or hold this/or any job.
I will maintain control over any funds received to ensure it goes toward housing, food and other essentials.
I just want to see this man go from being homeless to being a success. I want to show him that the mistakes he’s made along the way will not stop him. I want to see him grow as a person and just be a “working man.”
