Middletown Coalition for Community Safety (MCCS) is seeking to raise $5000 to intervene in the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PA-DEP) permitting process for Sunoco Logistics/ Energy Transfer Partners' proposed Mariner East 2 (ME2), a hazardous highly volatile liquids "NGL" pipeline that would cross the entire commonwealth of Pennsylvania and 11.4 miles of Delaware County.
With the funds raised, MCCS will commission an independent third-party study to indentify the proposed pipeline's potential impact on public and private drinking water. Without proper identification of potential hazards, more than 10 municipalities in Delaware County could adversely be impacted water contamination during construction and during the lifetime of the pipeline installation in the events of leak, rupture, or explosion.
Background:
On December 5, 2016, Sunoco Logistics submitted for the third time a permit application to the PA-DEP for the proposed ME2 pipeline. Previous submissions had received hundreds of pages of deficiencies, including failure to identify exceptional quality wetlands, and failure to note the pipeline's route through the Chester Ridley Crum watershed that provides municipal and private drinking water for tens of thousands of residents in Delaware County. The current application, available for review online at the DEP website, is still wrought with errors and deficiencies.

We are actively working to educate the public and elected officials of the dangers associated with siting a high pressure Natural Gas Liquids pipeline in a densely populated high consequence area.
