Help Franklin to not be evicted
Donation protected
I am raising money to help my school mate Franklin avoid eviction, after losing his job for wrongly being told he had no right to work in the UK.
This summer, Franklin was wrongly told for the second time he was going to be deported. This came after back in January, nine police officers knocked down his door and took him away in handcuffs and locked him up in a detention centre for two days. He was only let out after he begged to be released to get his insulin (Franklin has diabetes) which the police did not provide.
As a result, he had his right to work taken away from him and lost his job on the London Underground . He was not allowed to work or claim benefits for 8 months and also had the threat of deportation hanging over him.
During these 8 months, Franklin accumulated thousands of pounds of debt, and although he now has a new job he’s facing eviction from his property due to huge arrears in rent payments. The ordeal has also taken a huge toll on his mental health and he lives in fear that the same thing could happen again.
The Home Office have apologised for the mistakes but have yet to give Franklin any compensation and it's not expected for a while.
Any money raised over the target will go to the Windrush Justice Fund and the mental health charity The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM). Franklin will also give any money raised here back to the charities once he gets his compensation.
Thank you so much
